And then they would have had to pay him more. He was a PPG player by year 3. would he have been above a PPG in year 2 as a rookie had he spent year 1 in the AHL?

Who knows but it’s possible. Or at least let him play 20 or so games as a pro in the AHL to develop.

Ooo ooo ooo now do top 4 picks since 2017! I’ll help, Detroit has had 1… in a draft lottery where they dropped 3 spots. You’re turn. How about the devils?

The devils have had 2 unless you want to count 2 games for luke hughes?

ignoring 2017 and 2018 the devils won 1 lottery. Wow

I'd mention the fact that winning a lottery at all is much better than never even sniffing the top 3, but when you're literally gifted picks i guess it goes numb.

All I said is he had a bad rookie year and it's weird Devils fans think throwing your prospect into the NHL is weird, but the ability to stretch that into Jack Hughes' is bad is something I'd expect only from this crowd.

You very clearly implied it as a mistake, like Yzerman is some guru for leaving his prospects in lower level leagues. Meanwhile Jack Hughes development has gone perfectly

Oh so ignoring the devils winning Hischier. That’s convenient. Of course having 4 top 4 picks helps a rebuild. Regardless of who drafted them, they help Fitz rebuild. Yzerman inherited Zadina and Cholowski…

So you’re telling me the Red Wings have picked later than the devils and developed players in a way where they get to the NHL faster?

He just pointed out that it was irregular. It worked out for Hughes(albeit maybe a year later) but for most, they struggle a lot and time in the AHL helps them get there faster. That’s all. Hughes is great. Glad you were able to move up in the draft to get him.

Wow! Let's ignore 2017 and 2018 since that is Holland's era and everyone in Detroit despises him.
Then let's mention how many lotteries each team won.
.

Anyway in 17 and 18 the devils got Hischier, Ty Smith (mid 1st), Boqvist (2), zetterlund (3), and walsh (3). Yzerman had THIRTEEN picks in the top 3 rounds in the system from the previous regime, including 2 top 10 picks, and 6 picks in the top 40.

None of the Red wings 21 or 22 picks are NHL regulars yet either unless I missed something?

So Yzerman is to blame for Holland’s poor drafting?

Kasper and Edvinsson look like they’ll be full time next season. At least after Edvinsson recovers from the injury.

Weep. The devils found a goalie for a 2nd and it fixed their league worst goaltending from the year before.
Yzerman spent a pair of 3rds on goalies (got baited by Carolina goalie machine and then PAID FOR THE RIGHTS TO A UFA) and they both sucked.

Fitz went out and fixed his awful defense and turned it into an elite unit that is locked up long term:
Signed Hamilton, traded for Marino, Siegenthaler, Graves

Yzerman didn't fix his and instead signed Ben Chiarot long term

Edvinsson had his 9 game try out, Kasper had one game before his knee injury. Mazur is looking NHL ready. Detroit has about 3 NHL ready guys i just named.

And Luke Hughes looks like he's gonna be competing with Bedard for the calder next year. And if needed Nemec can as well, but Fitz may opt to preserve the slide year, as a year of ELC nemec in 3 years compared to the marginal value he'd provide as a 3RD behind marino and hamilton means it may be better asset management to find a stopgap.

A 3rd for a (at worst 2B) goalie is not a bad price. And Ned had a deal in place with that trade so saying he traded for the FA rights isn’t very accurate. You’re also underrating Husso.

Isn’t that elite unit that’s locked up long term losing Severson in a month?

Yeah, Yzerman is building through the draft. Same way he did in Tampa. Seider, Edvinsson, Albert Johansson, Wallinder, Walman, Viro/Anton Johannson/Buium/ Tuomisto seems like a very solid foundation for a D core.

Not to mention Soderblom and Albert Johansson who could/should both make the team out of camp this year.

If Bedard takes time to develop, next year’ Calder race should be fun. Bedard, Fantilli, Hughes, Edvinsson, Kasper, and so on.

Exactly. Dude needs to simmer down on the Devils expectations, They just lost to a Carolina team without Pacioretty and Svechnikov. And it wasn't even close.

Severson (our 3rd pairing RHD) is gone unless he takes a hometown discount yes. We would/may keep him but then we have to figure out who to trade in a year when Nemec is ready. Locked up our top 2RD, and our top LD. Luke Hughes, Kevin Bahl, and Simon Nemec will fill the other 3 spots
