Go for not making the playoffs again? I think that's the result here.

They're just trying to sneak in a half retention request.

Rangers pass. The only reason to move Goodrow is to clear cap space now and this just makes the cap situation worse.

This is some positive thinking on your part 😂. Why would the Leafs consider this? Do you think we’re thinking it’s time to tear it down and rebuild 🤦🏻

Easiest strategy would be to buy out Scandella.

Ferraro - Parayko
Krug - Faulk
Leddy - Perunovich

If Matthews doesn’t want to sign there long term they get a nice package for a player they’re going to lose for nothing in a year. They can flip the 2023 #4 OA for immediate nhl help. Bordeleau is a top 50ish prospect who’s close to nhl ready and Wiesblatt is a recent 1st rounder.

Matthews will probably take a lot more than that, but everything else is pretty good IMO.

I as a Pens fan would love one of Barabanov or Labanc at that price.

Barabanov and his cheap contract would be a great addition.

Wouldn’t it be easier and better cap management to retain half on Scandella for a late round pick? Or better yet just bury him?

I don’t mind the idea of acquiring Ferraro cheaply. But I’m also not sure what exactly he is. Seems like a young defensive d man who has been hammered by poor usage on a bad team.

What is he ultimately good at though? It’s low cost. But it seems like you’re just getting a younger Scandella for a couple of extra seasons.

Okay, probably, but when was the last time the easiest way was also the best way? One of Krug or Leddy needs to go. Scandella is not the problem.

Also, Bortz won't be sitting. It's just too many offensive Ds without him. I'd much rather buy out Leddy than keep throwing him out on the PK.

Seems to fit the Blues target age range but I see your point. I just don’t know how the Blues move a defenseman with NTC like Leddy or Krug. I want Perunovich in the lineup and playing with Faulk preferably. Finding a partner for Parayko would also be nice too, cause I don’t think Leddy is the answer there.

I think it would be worth it to retain on either or both of those players to move them out. I would take 3 and 4 years of retention especially when some of the new core will be on ELCs the next few years like Bolduc, Snuggerud, and whoever we get 10th overall.

Maybe Blues retain and train both Leddy and Krug. Sign a LD for 3-4 years and run with Free Agent - Parayko, Perunovich - Faulk, Scandella - Bortuzzo. Draft a center and a pair of defenseman (1 left and 1 right).

Having Perunovich and Krug in the lineup isn’t a great idea for a couple of reasons.

1. Both have a riddled history with injuries.

2. Both play the same role and have the same strengths/weaknesses.

What would be interesting to me. But I would imagine a very hard sell to ownership, is seeing what’s out there for Krug at 2m-2.5m retained. I’d imagine that you could return a fairly decent asset at that range. He’s a high end point producer still. He’s just often injured and overpaid.

The issue is you would need him to waive to a team that needs his skill set and has cap. The only real good looking option for that is Pittsburgh or Islanders. But it’s still tough to gauge what direction Pittsburgh is going.

Yeah I think Pittsburgh would be the best move for Krug cause it’s close enough to Michigan and he’d be on an older team. Probably partnered with Letang. Krug at $2.5M retained isn’t even that bad considering we could also probably send Leddy to Florida with some retention too.
