Right idea, but the compensation sounds much higher in the rumours. Islanders for example have left some big names free... Other teams will no doubt call Vegas to claim that player, then trade the player to them. So Islanders in theory have to outbid other teams looking to prey on their players. Montreal for example would offer up a lot more than a 2nd for either Nelson, Strome or de Haan.

The talk right now is that the Isles provide a 1st if Vegas takes Kulemin and Grabovski. I think the Isles have to fork over another pick, probably a 4th rounder. Taking on 9m in cap space is a lot, but if it's only for one season and you get a 1st and a 4th, I'd think that it's worth it. Especially to a team that needs to build a prospect system on the fly. But even if Vegas only takes Kulemin, the Isles will still happily provide the 1st rounder.
