"How to fix this dumpster fire?" Wait for those bad contracts to expire, and don't reach and sign more bad contracts. Pray that Miller is good value for eight years.
Start hitting on some those high draft picks.

Unless you're planning on retaining 50% on Garland with no return, Ottawa rejects HARD

Edited May 31, 2023 at 11:43 a.m.. Reason: typo
Yah, okay. I concur with Garak, of course.

To all fans of teams thinking that Chicago will PAY for a cap dump - or take them on for nothing in return - please stop. The Hawks will easily hit the floor, without having to do ANY of that ****!

You can either dream on that getting rid of a cap dump - or a player with value - to Chicago will cost NOTHING, or you can get real and understand that trading with Hawks (or any team with space) to take on ANY salary to help your team stay under the cap WILL HURT. We've been there; we know... It doesn't matter if a player has to be dealt, even if he has value, if players have to go for your team to comply with the cap.

With the Hawks now on the other side (i.e., having cap space; not scrambling to fit under it), we're going to extract as much benefit as we can with our space. It's our duty, for crying out loud. If you don't feel the pain from making trades with us to comply with your cap struggles or give you maneuvering room, then we haven't done our job.

Peace.

You start fixing it by being realistic about your assets: Myers and a 2024 third gets you a 2024 sixth, and Pearson might get you a seventh on the off-chance that he doesn't spend the last year of his contract on the LTIR list and can actually contribute.

Unlike the prior responses, I think that Garland has some positive value, and might get you an over-the-horizon third as you have here.

The Pittsburgh trade looks okay to me.

If compher is taking $4mil, he's taking it with colorado to contend, not to sit in said dumpster fire. Chicago will offer him $5 to sit in theirs, at least, and he's from there.

Lol...or they could qualify their own RFA's and sign 2 UFA's for 4-5 million and hit the floor without taking a cap dump, a LTIR dump, a mid round pick (that they literally have 10 better than), and give away a useful low cost NHL player (not a huge Caleb Jones fan....but he is an actual NHL player).

As a Hawks fan, I absolutely concur with this. In fact, I have Compher down (in my mind) as the ONLY UFA the Hawks sign this year - to a 5x$5mm deal. He'd bring stability to the important 2C position while the team is on the long, rebuilding road; he plays great defense for all the kids to learn from; he has the experience of winning the Cup; and, he is, as swissmontana states, from Chicago. Great story and important add, IMO.

if he cant sit with us, i'd at least like to see him make a bag and sit w/ y'all. As much as I hate the hawks, they seem competant, Vancouver does not
