Completely out of touch and unrealistic. The Jackets aren't trading Texier after what he just went through and they aren't trading 3OA for Kuznetsov.

I like Alexeyev, but not at the cost of Xhekaj. Points wise, Xhekaj is the better player. Younger too. Habs say no.

Kinda why the title says what it says. But you would also be moving back 5 spots in the draft for Kuzy that is the key there.

Yeah it was kind of a random shot in the dark, although he is only a single year younger than AA

Which is a horrid trade off. Kuzy is overpaid, past his prime, and only signed for 2 more years. There is a very clear drop off in quality after the top 4 prospects in this draft so it would take a *massive* overpayment for the Caps to move up from 8 to 3 and Kuzy doesn't move the needle on that.

You realize Kuzy is a near point per game guy that would be able to give you an actual whole first line with Johnny and Laine, right? The jackets have lacked a top line center since they traded for Jones... Plus the second and the third help offset that balance, its not like Tex is a star player either. If you have a top line that can actually consistently be a threat because every guy on that line is top line material then there is a shot Columbus makes the playoffs. No first line center = no playoffs.

I don't understand your detest to this, its a hypothetical.

Don't neg your own trade. You want Texier and the third bad enough to propose a trade for them. Don't turn around and tell us they're not worth what you're offering. That's bad faith.

Columbus doesn't remotely entertain this deal.

No, a single line does not make the Jackets a playoff team. Their defense and goaltending would still be atrocious. They are not going to be in contention for at least 3 more years and at that point Kuznetsov is now 34 and likely on some other team while Carlsson is hitting his stride and Washington is likely pushing for the playoffs instead. Do you think people are actually this incapable of seeing just how awful it is to trade away top picks in top heavy drafts for past their prime vets? I'd be unhappy if the Jackets traded their 2nd round pick this year for Kuznetsov. I'd quit watching them if they traded 3 OA for him. Also, the issue with trading Texier isn't the value of the return. It's simple human decency and consideration for his situation.

Fair for the Texier situation, but I do have to say in three years the capitals will be far from being in the playoffs, they will be in a full rebuild once Ovi is done. I would say they are looking like the current Coyotes once Ovi retires, it will be the beginning of a 5 year rebuild for sure.

Its not he isnt worth what the offer is, I said he isnt a star, meaning a second or third should be enough to include the guy in the trade...

Columbus and Montreal hang up before the proposals are finished:

-The top of this draft is VERY highly regarded. Columbus is not going to move back to acquire a veteran and some picks in the late 2md/early 3rd range. 30+ veterans, especially ones like Kuznetsov, do not have nearly as much value as you seem to think, especially in the cap era we are in.

-Montreal is not going to trade a 3rd and Xhekaj for a slightly older D-man they probably like less than Xhekaj and a veteran they don't need or want to spend the money on as they are mid-rebuild.

So the habs give away the better prospect AND pay you a 3rd to solve your cap issues ?!

Would you really call him a better prospect? Granted AA hasn't lived up to the 1st round selection he was yet, he is still developing into a great defenseman and I have seen a lot of interest from Canadians fans for Mantha to go up there. It isn't really a cap issue as he is only signed for this up coming season anyway.

Reminds me of Woody Allen's joke in Annie Hall - two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions."

The difference here being that the Caps could retain money to make him a more palatable acquisition, but then there's still the issue of him only having 2 years left on his contract which makes trading a top tier pick that would give the Jackets 7+ years of play a non-starter.

On the surface, sure, it fills a need for Columbus. But to include 3OA and Tex, it's like hypothetically robbing our house and slapping our mother on the way out, then acting confused as to why we don't invite you over anymore.

Yes, i would REALLY call him the (way) better prospect.
And the only interest for habs fans in mantha here is if we get paid to take on his contract because your tems must off-load some much needed cap, not a single habs fan is willing to pay to get him
