Nothing is a guarantee in sports. What I know from reading some articles is that Matthews wants to stay a Leaf, at short-term but a high cap hit. I think a deal gets done. But if talks break down he'll most likely would want to be traded to California.

2. Injuries are different than playoff ineptitude... two top-six contributors (who exactly on the Leafs was injured?)

Maybe you are new to hockey but bottom 6 forwards grow on trees - no problems there. Elite centres are pretty rare and almost impossible to obtain (unless you draft), especially for small market team like Carolina

bottom 6 forwards grow on trees may grow on trees but not quality bottom 6 forwards. I mean their are a couple good to elite centers that could end up being on the trading block. Ex. Jordan Staal is a quality bottom-six forward and Wayne Simmons is not. The Hurricanes have a bunch of quality depth but need one more very good to elite top six
