Canes pass. Not convinced I'd do Necas for Nylander one for one. Production favors Nylander, but Necas is WAY cheaper, and is an RFA on expiry where Nylander is a UFA.

That's also a really awful offer sheet. Overpay for 1 year to gets the guys rights. Don't offer a fair 4 year deal, the team will match it

Fully understand the concerns about the Necas for Nylander deal. However, I think it's important to remember that Necas will only be that much cheaper for one year, and that Nylander is more of a scoring threat than Necas. Definitely overpaid a bit there though, which I think a team will have to do to pry Nylander away from Toronto.

I also thought that Sway offer sheet was an overpay based on most of the projections. Seems like most projections are somewhere from 3.5-4 per year. Probably would make more sense as a 1x5.5 or something though, I get that.

I get why the canes would do this (Nylander > Necas) but why would the Leafs? We want to make the team worse next year for a few draft picks 🤯, all indications are Willy extends

Leafs are up against the cap and clearly looking to change things up with the big 4. You and I both know that 1 of them is likely gone this offseason, most likely Marner or Nylander. Necas may be slightly worse now, but he is significantly younger and on a much cheaper deal.

You & I know different things apparently because none of them are going anywhere; and up against the cap - say what? No more than most teams, they have plenty of cap space - moving out superstars rarely results in a win

I agree that it is rarely the right move to trade a superstar, but there has to be a balance between star power and depth. Leafs have a little under $10M in cap space, and almost their entire bottom 6 and their starting goalie are free agents. The cap situation isn't dire, but it is definitely dicey.

I still think the new GM is going to look to make his mark on the team, and use one of those 4 as trade bait. Will it be a trade like this? Could very well not be. But I would bet a lot that one of them is gone before next season.

You are entitled to your opinion , no problem if we disagree (which we do) but important we agree on the facts. Murray will be traded or bought out - I show Leafs having $18M to fill 6 spots in a 22 man roster - Sammy, 2/3C, 4th line and 3rd pairing D. Could always be better but certainly far from up against the cap and much better off than most competing teams
