Is it Enough

Created by: rednwhite
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: May 31, 2023
Published: May 31, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bettman forces the Coyotes to get a deal done to remain in Arizona. A new arena won't be done for a few years so instead of letting Cooley walk (who won't sign there), they make a deal while he is still under team control. The Wings are in desperate need of another top center prospect so they overpay to get one of the best ones available.

I know this trade is highly unlikely and probably an over payment but would be fun to think about.

I feel like it's close, maybe upgrade Zadina to a better prospect. Would like to hear from ARZ fans.

To those curious on Wallinder, he is a prospect with a supposed crazy high ceiling. Was Rogle's #1 DMan in the SHL, lead the SHL in U21 points. Very underrated prospect. Drafted under the idea of "A lot of work needed, but a lot to work with"

I think Detroit would be stupid to offer this trade and Arizona would be dumb not to take it.

With that being said, I love Cooley; but I’d never do this trade from a Red Wings perspective.

It’s possible this deal could end up being William Wallinder, Ryan Leonard, Tom Willander & someone like Kasper Halttunen for Logan Cooley and I am super straight on that.

Two sides. I personally wouldn't do it since I don't like top heavy teams, but I can see a route taken like this.

Overpay for Cooley, close for Keller.

Either way we are better off keeping the picks and Wallinder.

I don’t think it’ll take THAT much to get Cooley. He’s still a prospect, while he’s the top prospect in hockey currently, he’s still unproven at the NHL level. So he comes with risk - & tons of hyped top prospects don’t work out so nothing guarantees he will.

Anything more than a top prospect and Detroit’s 1st round this year is an overpay. I’d think it’d be closer with Marco Kasper and the 9th overall pick this year.. maybe a mid round pick like a 3rd or 4th as well but nothing more.

What a lovely, sound, logical explanation. Thank you.

Would rather give this than Kasper.

How does trading for an unsigned prospect make them top heavy?

Rather have great around than decent everywhere but the top lines. Also, this would be under the pretense Cooley would sign in Detroit.

Sure, YOU might as a fan, but Arizona management is likely to prefer better quality than quantity.

& if we’re being realistic here, if Detroit did acquire Cooley than Kasper’s spot on the roster is limited. Larkin is locked up long term and chances are Cooley takes the 2C spot - Kasper is likely to be far better than a 3C so you’re wasting his skill set at that point making him expendable anyways

Kasper could transition to Winger, played it in his D0 year. Or even Cooley would transition to play top-line minutes with Larkin, but I think Kasper to wing is more likely.

Obviously Kasper is my favorite prospect - I won't deny it, but there's very valid reasons behind it, most of it is bringing toughness to a soft team and, as a former goalie, I love guys who give a **** about what happens in the defensive zone.

Ok, I don't understand not wanting good players though, especially a prospect that we don't even know what he is yet.

Please let me know what side you're clearly not understanding what I'm saying. Actually nevermind, I don't really care to talk with you.

Im not trying to be difficult I get if you don't want to pay that much to get Cooley but I don't get saying he might be too good so we shouldn't trade for him

Here's as basic as I can get it:
If our team gets better overall; yes. If not, no.

As for draft picks; I know they're not a promise of anything, I don't care too much about them in the grand scheme of things. I just don't think Wings should entertain a deal that'll cut a chunk out of our top 6/top 4 prospect pool AND the draft picks.
