Not bad for Murray but i would think SJ is definitely on his no trade list. Sharks poor defense is bad for goalies trying to reset their career.

I feel like Murray is a goalie who does better with a lot of shots, similar to Reimer. Who knows, I feel like this was the year to reset and it didn't work out. I think due to injuries he's at the end of the line sadly.

You clearly have no idea who Luneau is and why are the ducks who just finished last trading for a win now player

Luneau just won QMJHL dman of the year and is our top RD prospect, which could be argued as our weakest in the org

While we have the best LD pipeline in the league and in my opinion it isn’t close

No need for Hanifin, and definetly not at this absurd cost

I can’t see Anaheim giving up that many premium assets for a player in a position we have a ton of high level prospects in. I think if we desperately needed a LHD we’d do this but not for this cost. But we really don’t need one long term (at this age)

Worse comes to worse we can just sign a guy like Soucy for like 2-3 year until Mintyukov and Zellweger are full time roster players.

Also Luneau might be a steal draft pick, so I wouldn’t throw him out as a trade chip just yet.

A lot of shots is one thing but a lot of shots from in the slot is another and Reimer and Kahkonen really stuggled with the Sharks D inability to keep plays to the outside. Certainly the Sharks D should improve this year if they find a way to get rid of MacDonald and Simek. Perhaps Toronto can take MacDonald as a 7th D or 13th forward to assist SJ getting out of that logjam since we are sending a 4th here that seems more than fair.

Agreed, as long as its not high glove I think Murray would survive. IF schenn walks, I could totally see it. I like Timmins but I don't see him as a top 6 D just yet.

Anaheim isn't giving up 3 seconds for a pending UFA, we have cap space to sign a UFA if we want a LHD.

Totally understand with how good the Ducks prospect pool is and especially on that LHD. My thoughts was going into this season, there is a massive hole there and I think Gibson might kill someone if he doesn't get more help. I think Soucy could be that guy for the ducks for sure, but a lot of other teams want him and he might not sign. I totally get your side however, just play it out without giving up assets until the kids are ready.

Ducks pass. Luneau isn’t available for a UFA. I like Hanifin but he doesn’t make any sense for ANA. UFA LHD that cost too many assets to acquire. He won’t sign long term.

Murray did defeat SJ in our only cup final appearance. If he regains that level of play we can flip him back to Toronto for Knies and a pick! (Kidding)

Understand what you're saying. My point was the UFA pool this year isn't great and the UFA LHDs are likely going to demand a huge amount of dollars between different teams. There is a good chance the Ducks don't get one of those guys for the top 4 on the left hand side. This deal takes the pressure off the ducks, more so if they sign him to an extension as I view him as the best LHD from anyone in the UFA. He plays well until all the kids are ready to take over in a couple of years and then Flower or him can drop down.

We aren’t spending a 2nd on a rental defenseman let alone adding another along with the Q’s defenseman of the year

I think this offseason the Ducks are gonna be in a good position. There’s a lot of teams in cap trouble and Ducks can take advantage of trading for some veteran defensemen at a low cost because of teams needing cap relief. Even if not, there’s a decent amount of veteran LHD who could look to settle down in Newport Beach towards the end of their tenure.

I get that, but the acquisition cost, especially for only one guaranteed year, is far too high for where we are. As has been mentioned, if there isn't a UFA option avaliable, there are cap strapped teams that we can take advantage of, like how we got Kulikov last season. The player we bring in won't be Hanafins caliber if we go that route, but we will still have Luneau and our 2 2nds.

Money this season is not a problem if the UFAs demand AAV, and Hanafin is going to be due a large raise as well, so we're only saving money this season. We can also outbid LA for Gavrikov who has already gotten to experience Southern California.

A team might give up 3 2nds for Hanafin, but it's a team in win now mode and needs a sub 5 million top 4 D. We might give up a Boston 2nd that we have and that's about it.

Besides, top 4 RHD is the big organizational need.
