I'd really like to see the Leafs try and change the rhetoric surrounding their identity. I hate the narrative about the Leafs being a soft, skilled team and I dearly want it changed. ALL of those players were eventually traded by the GM that offered them 1 year deal except Laine at CLB.

It might show a lack of trust in the player by the GM, enough not to go long term with them

After a bad playoff run by Bratt, the trust of Fitz in Bratt could be even lower

Bratt is easily a top 50 skater in this league and that kinda talent shouldn't be traded away in a hurry.
Bratt will resign most likely, he is an offensive dynamo perfectly suited to the way the Devils play.
It may not be long-term though. I think it's equally likely that he signs the Reinhart deal (6.5-7m x 3 years) as the fiala deal (7.875m x 6-8 years)
There are no good indications that Fitzgerald will seek to trade Bratt, there are indications however that he'd like to have a sooner bite at an UFA deal than optimal however.

The notion that Bratt had a bad playoff run is categorically false, Bratt was good in the playoffs, not great mind you. Just good.

In his end-of-season media availability, Fitzgerald expressed some real optimism that a deal is close. Said they have a "framework" of deal set (whatever that means). But it sounds like it is going in right direction. A trade is always possible. Looking at that list of players, many of them were sold at discounts by teams that could not extend them. We have lots of cap space but if Fitzy and Bratt cannot find an agreement, he could always end up there too.
