Askarov isn't even ready, And that sure as hell doesn't come close to getting him out of Nashville.

As a Preds fan, that price is probably an overpayment.

It's more about him being our future starter than it is the price.

Holy crap on a cracker, what an overpayment!!! When was the last time you saw a goalie prospect go for more than a 1st round pick?! Hell a lot of experienced NHL goalies don't even get 1st round picks.

Monty is gonna be just fine. Instead of "better dealing the situation" we should lock him up for 4 more years and be grateful to underpay a starter by about 2-4M/season

IMO we Keep Beck he's Projected to be top 6 and he's a Prick like Marchand so i love him lol
Kidney , sure as he's as skilled but he's a Byron type depth leader personality.
Becks just there to be a pest and produce points /momentum

PLD if we sign him as a UFA great
If not i'd just OS WPG a low ball offer like 1 year x 6m
PLD signs as it gets him to his UFA goal and he wont be shopped to just anyone based on WPG's ability to get a return.
This way he's in WPG under Bowness where he had a great season allowing him to build up his value before he becomes a UFA.

They kinda have a history of moving their top drafted Goalie picks.
The Rinne's and Saro's came deeper overcoming those infront of them
If they were drafting Hrabal this year then i'd find it even more likely they'd move him

Saros/Lanikainen are 28 and a great Tandem
Given they kept Rinne in a tandem for years before giving him Saros to Mentor after he had 2 pro season in Liiga and 1 1/2 in AHL

Plus Volkov took huge steps forward with 31gp alongside 1.81 GAA and 0.928 SV%

When Askarov will be ready to be a full time Starter, Saros deal will either have 1 year left I believe which lines up perfectly for a passing of the torch. It would make 0 sense for NSH to move him

Sweet , way easier to just sign Saros
I mean if you really just developed a Full time starter to let him go after next season , im in
I mean shoot if fans knew they were this careless about goalies we wouldnt just did 2025 post with Saros in there

To me its like hearing "we want Murray over Fleury"
Its like ... ooo ok , you got me over a barrel on this one guys *Chuckles*

MTL could draft Hrabal & Augustine with those picks instead and NSH has spent time developing Askarov as the G of tomorrow. That's also an overpayment.

Has Great Tandem at 28 years old each in their Prime "the Goalie of Tomorrow " who's been ready since last year lol
I just dont see it . With Trotz in now over Poilie his history in net doesnt favor the young goalies
even Saro's didnt get in until Trotz left the NSH system as Trotz took a break from Ellis and Mason as back up to give Linback a few seasons .
Kid didnt see much time or growth just sheltered minutes in a hollow role.

In his defense Trotz partnering Rinne with Experienced Goalies was in large part a benefit for Rinne's growth.
Im just saying NSH drafts i think its a Goalie a year average since entering the league way more then anyone else.
They also hit on later round picks more often then higher round picks .
While Askarov may be the future Poilie had planned i just dont see how it fits with Trotz history and style of Coaching which i guarantee will translate into his role as GM

You say never
I say good give me either of your Tandem guys in their prime , i'd rather them and draft Hrabal

I'm just looking at it as impartial as I can being a fan of both. As a MTL fan I'd love to get Askarov but we could actually draft 2 goalies who could be as good or better with some added development with those picks, and we can keep our other 2 prospects. As a NSH fan I'd rather keep the line of succession we currently have in place, no real reason to disrupt it by selling our "sure thing" for a proverbial lottery ticket or two. Askarov is 20, I'm not bringing him up as the starter for another 1-2 years at the risk of ruining and/or stunting his abilities. From my POV, neither side should consider this.

As a MTL fan i'd rather ready now
We got multiple ready tomorrow pieces
We need support for Monty today and Askarov, Knight , Woll and Wolf are the best options.
Of the 3 only 1 team has a history of moving goalies for assets

I would think we need more "Lankinen" support for him and not "Askarov" support. Especially if we're considering Monty to be a starting G 60-70% of the season.

We need someone to eat 30 games roughly
I figure Allens injured 10 games in or so as he's increasingly more banged up
We'll need a guy who can cover Monty for 3-4 game runs as Monty likes going 5-6 games then cooling off
Askarov was up to the task we figured but Lanikainen we know is

Montreal fans have a very common trend on CapFriendly of going “Hey… you know that high-tier goalie prospect you have? Yeah, we like him more than you. You’ll just give him to us, right?”

And your comment on our prior history of goalie prospects is thrown out the window now because Trotz is taking over, and guess what Trotz LOVES? His goaltending. You are absolutely lost if you believe by any metric that he’s going to trade a recently drafted 1st round goalie that’s as close as 1-2 years out.

Askarov isn’t going anywhere. Please, stop begging teams for their future starters.

Winnipeg declines. They're not taking a multi-year cap dump back.
