CGY says no
Phi would need a little more for Tippett, prob a 1st, 2nd , and a 3rd to part ways with a younger player like him

There is really no reason for the Ducks to ship out our only top 6 RW, a guy who we fully expect to sign to that deal ourselves, and throw in two seconds, one which may as well be a first, to get a year of Nylander, who will undoubtedly test the UFA market next summer.

We're not in a position to utilize Nylander before his deal is up. We are in a position to chase him in free agency, so we may as well wait and add him our roster.

I would consider trading 7 or 8 years of Troy Terry for 7 or 8 years of William Nylander, depending on their respective cap hits, but I'm not entertaining for one minute exchanging Troy Terry with 7 or 8 years of team control for one year of Nylander, never mind the hilarious seconds. And adding them IS hilarious.

The basis of the trade is that Nylander signs long term in Anaheim. The two 2nds are thrown in because Nylander is the better player, and he's almost the same age.

How is he going to sign long-term in Anaheim? WE aren't offering him $9 million. And if we thought that we'd like to pay him that, we could just wait until next summer to offer it to him. There's no rush to pay a high price for a rental even if he's going to sign a new contract with us -- what's he going to do, help us finish in 25th place instead of 28th? Seriously, do you really think that the value of having Nylander one season early is worth our best RW, never mind the draft picks?!?!?

Let's figure this out. Terry is 7m X 7 years player (by your post), so the Ducks who aren't going to make the playoffs, trade for one year rental of Nylander.
Another really silly trade (one of the worse) based upon an extension.

If any team desires to sign Nylander long-term it would be advantageous to bring him in a year early. And with the cap going up in a few years paying someone with the talent and productivity of Nylander is worth it. 9.5 million a year for Nylander will be a great contract in 2025.

Smart and ambitious teams make these types of bets all the time. Is Anaheim smart and ambitious? I don't know. But acquiring draft picks year after year and tanking year after year doesn't lead a team to the playoffs. The moment will come to trade those picks for established young stars.

Ah -- suddenly we've gone from being guaranteed to sign (Comment #6) to "desires to sign." Your argument isn't getting stronger, it's getting weaker, like that kid we see deflating in the vacation ads during the playoffs.
