This roster was done under the assumption Matthews and Nylander will sign long-term extensions. To try to keep free agent salaries somewhat realistic, I used Evolving Hockey's and Dobber Hockey's 2023 salary projections as the minimum amount I signed players for, while trying to most players a bit more salary than they are projected to receive and more term than I would want to give them. My priorities while building the roster were 1) Strengthen the top 4 with a two-way defenseman who can move the puck 2) Add a 2nd line C so Tavares can move to LW 3) add a bit more speed and physicality throughout the lineup if possible and 4) keep as much of the core together as much as possible
