Forgot the exact terms, but point still stands.

Right, I'm just pointing out to others, and using your post as a springboard, that his contract isn't actually as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It's by no means ideal and he's definitely overpaid, but it's really only like 1m per and 1 year longer than he deserved in the grand scheme of things and he fills a role in the short term and can be a 7th dman in 2 years for the final year of his deal if he can't improve after getting more comfortable in Newsy's system.

He was also very good at the start of the year imo. Think it was about a quarter way through when **** hit the fan for him.

and then he actually finished pretty strong too, it was really just the middle of the year that he was straight up bad. I gotta admit too, I was VERY pleasantly surprised how well he did on his off hand when paired with Maata.

That Määta Hronek pairing went absolutely crazy. Määta may not statistically be a crazy good defenseman, but he sure is a bandaid for other defenseman that love to get out of position.

Human eraser for sure, he's not flashy, but I absolutely love his game and was really happy they extended him.

Gets a lot of crap but he's played with two turn over machines, so.

I still don't know how 2 GM's were fooled so heavily by Chariot in a 6month time frame with Florida trading a 1st + for him at the deadline and then Yzerman handing out that albatross of a contract to him in free agency.

It's far from an albatross of a contract and he is really not that bad.

DET has tons of cap space and the deal expires in 3 years...it's a non-issue for them.

Come on. It's a terrible deal. He's at best a number 5 dman and was given 4yrs 19mil total with trade protection.

Yzerman is a great GM but it's okay to admit this was a bad deal.

It's simply not haha. This team is not competing for anything and they have tons of cap space.

It is not preventing them from signing any FAs, it is not preventing them from making any trades or roster moves and it is not preventing them from making the playoffs. That's what constitutes an "albatross".

It is an overpay for a bottom pair defenseman - big whoop.
