Your asking price for Barrie is reasonable, but the Isles can’t afford him right now. Maybe this deal makes sense closer to the deadline if they can’t find a cheaper option this summer.

Yeah, they can't acquire him now without hamstringing themselves unless the Preds retain 50%. He would fill a lot of needs though: puck-moving D, powerplay QB, and RD3 Mayfield replacement all in one shot, without a long-term commitment, too.

Totally agree with this. Would have no issue with Barrie the player, but doesn't make too much sense from a cap perspective.

Real issue here is about Nashville not having all 3 retention spots. Most annoying part of the Ekholm deal from Nashville’s perspective is that 500 K retained. Idk why either team agreed to it, considering the value of a retention spot AND the fact that Edmonton has some dead weight they could’ve afforded to get rid of.

No chance the Rangers trade Chytil since they just signed him to a pretty team friendly 4 year deal.

Barrie is a terrible fit for the isles. Dobson already struggles defensively and Barrie doesn’t replace Dobson on the PP. He would be the most overpaid 6th defenseman in the league getting 16 minutes or less per night. The isles need someone at RD who can play strong D and get the puck out of the zone.

Agreed, that could come back to bite them. Seems completely unnecessary that Nashville did that.
