Hellebuyck to NJD Jets trade up PLD to MTL

Created by: JonesyO523
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 2, 2023
Published: Jun. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know these 3 trades are extremely unrealistic, but I just wanted to see what people think is fair value-wise. Hellebuyck move is only if he won't stay. Would much rather keep him if at all possible.
Goalies split time.
I know Armia isn't great but I miss him

Jets trade up. Really don't want to see Heinola go, but I think it would be worth it to have more star power in a few years.

In terms of who we'd pick with this pick, I really don't know. Personally I've always like Benson, but there's been lots of hype around Smith lately. Either way, I'm happy with it.
ARI
  1. Heinola, Ville

Additional Details:
Arizona already has a lot of top forward prospects like Keller (Not a prospect but already a star), Cooley, Geekie, Guenther, and Maccelli. I see them considering moving down, and drafting a D-man (say Reinbacher, Lindstein, or Allen), as well as getting Heinola and a later first for more depth picks (which I would use on Hrabal to have a decent goalie prospect in the sytem).

If WPG needs to add, I would

No, NJ should not be trading all that for a rental, nor a goalie over 30. Helle is great right now, but a term on a deal going forward is depreciating value.

You over estimate the value of Hellebuyck....and especially when mentioned crazy extension talk.
Best bet for Jets on Helly trade return is closer to TDL, and Jets hope a starter from a true contender is injured.

Kidney is the prospect that jets will get, not Barron, which habs needs in their system, if anything Kidney and Struble.

I agree. Plus, if you're the gm that trades too much for him, you are probably under extra internal pressure to sign him to an extension. Wanna guess what that looks like? It looks like a Carey price/bobrowski special. I don't care if my team picks him up as a rental, for say a 24 first and maybe some stuff that's lying around, but I would much rather shop in the ufa bin than pay any more than that.

As a Jets fan, these are decent.

The WPG / NJD trade is okay. I think it's better for NJD if they sign Helly long term, but not so good if he only goes there for 1 year.

The WPG / AZ trade is great for the Jets. Doubt AZ will like it. Would have to add a top prospect on top of it for AZ to go for it. Think Lucius, McGroarty, etc... or even more. The #6 pick will either be a top line Forward of Reinbacher. That pick will definitely enhance the team that gets it in a very good way.

The WPG / MTL is good for the Jets. Barron = PLD for a good hockey trade. The other assets are whatever.

The WPG / BOS is not bad. WPG would trade Stanley for a bag of pucks, so any pick is good. BOS won't want to give anything more than a bag of pucks for the "FUTURE CHARA - hahaha".

NO to VLADAR!

Since the value of the panthers pick dropped, both could be doable with the 1st and Dvorak.

I gotta ask, why not? To me a goalie is the biggest piece you're missing, and Hellebuyck fills that hole quite nicely? Sure he's not the youngest anymore, but you're gonna have some older players on a cup winning team. I think this move pushes your team to a top 2 team in the East, and to be honest, the return isn't all that high for an elite goalie. And in terms of the contract, I mentioned he'd come with an extension. Doesn't have to be long term. I really don't see the downside from NJD's POV, you won't be worried about losing the 2nd, and Hellebuyck is a huge upgrade on Schmid. Holtz is the big piece, and even then there are already concerns about his future with NJ.

UFA goalie shopping is not a good idea either. This coming year your headliners are Andersen, Jarry, and Varlamov. Not only is Hellebuyck better than all 3 of them, the contract probably wouldn't be too much more expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if Andersen and Jarry each get 7M, even though I don't think they're worth it.

Sure it's only to make the cap work, but I'd rather just not have him. I don't want to have to retain on him and flip him. Are you guys really in that much cap trouble even though you were a basement team?

The cap changes a little in the off-season (I think teams can go over by 10%? Someone correct me if I'm wrong), so I don't think the trade would be a cap problem at all.

The Devils are already a top 3 team in the east. They were third in the league with Vanecek as their starter. I cannot recall a single trade for a goalie that involved a prospect as major as Holtz, nevermind with a goalie piece like Schmid also included. Schmid is untouchable right now, and Holtz only gets traded for someone younger than Hellebuyck and with term.

Between his age, expiring contract, and insane asking price, there is no trade for Hellebuyck at ACGM prices that is worth it for the Devils.

Because the Devils shouldn't be trading that away for a 30 year old goalie. Their window is not the next two years, its the next eight or so with Hughes and such. Too many teams have forced in pieces to win now and shrunk their window. The Devils would be better off with a Saros or someone for that price and get more prime years. Goalies tend to decline after 30, so not a way to establish your long term success.

It's not like the next many years will be decided on only Helle or no one....there are other options that could happen, do just throw everything at the first answer, even a decent one, may not be the best. Also, Schmid 23? Of course Helle is better right now, but I really loved what I saw from the him when the team didn't play like total garbage around him.

Arizona can draft a much better Dman than Heinola with their own 1st round pick
