I don’t understand the desire to trade Krebs for a veteran d man who isn’t a true top pair guy like Rasmus Andersson. Depth is fleeting and you can never have too much talent, because you can’t retain everyone long term.

You don’t want a solid defensive Dman to pair with Power or Dahlin? If there’s one thing they’re missing it’s that. “Veteran” , he’s not even old and signed to a very friendly contract

Yeah he’s a veteran d man. That’s not a criticism, that’s just because of the number of seasons he’s played. Again he doesn’t post truly elite metrics like a Rasmus Andersson, he doesn’t play top pair minutes and he also has an extensive history of concussions. He’s good but Buffalo should aim higher.

Krebs right now looks like he has a mid-six ceiling but will probably end up in the bottom six

I wouldn’t write Krebs off as a bottom sixer before his ELC expires. He’s got a lot of skill, a lot of speed and from what I’ve seen he’s a hard worker. He’s probably a second line guy on half the teams in the league.

If I am trading Krebs, I am putting him as the center piece player in a trade for a 2nd pair RHD. Given the Sabres center depth, he is expendable. I believe this is fair value on both sides.

With Thompson and cozens here, we could really use a third line center who can play defensively and win some draws. That's a job that Krebs could soon fill nicely, but Carlo as a big defensive right d, who is under contract for several years, that's just too good to pass up. If boston asked for Krebs or mittelstadt plus, I'm in. Should be able to find a capable two way center to play on the third line in ufa or by trade. Plus, you have centers coming in ostlund, savoie, and kulich, I just can't see missing out on a perfect fit on d for a third line center.

It's not an insult, I like Krebs, I think he's going to be a legit 200 foot center, he's developing a physical side too, and his offense especially as a playmaker is obvious. But we have Thompson and cozens here, with ostlund, savoie, and kulich as first round pick centers knocking on the door. Carlo would be a fantastic partner for Power and we would be a better team right away. Finding a two way center to play on the third line should be much easier. This wouldn't be giving Krebs away by any means.

Is Carlo better than a trade target like Sean Durzi who would cost significantly less? Is he better than a free agent option like Severson who could be had for free? Carlo’s lack of puck skills makes me question his value tbh. Buffalo should aim higher and go after a guy like Rasmus Andersson if he’s made available, or another top of the lineup defender.

Sean Durzi is an offensive Dman and a lot are potentially available like Boqvist and Addison as well.

Carlo is one of a kind and a big defensive Dman

No interest in durzi. Severson would absolutely be of interest, IF he would sign here. Of course andersson would be fine, but if he's available it's going to cost a ton.

I haven't seen a second line center yet. On any team other than the true bottom feeders gunning for Bedard

Writing off Krebs now would be like the Flames writing off Bennet imo. It’s way too earlier for you to be making that determination, and tbh I’m not even sure what it’s based on.

Sabres have mad puck skills in the top for with Dahlin and Power logging 45 mins a night. Carlo is a great fit

Bennett is at tops a mid-six center. Nothing wrong with that.

His reputation is better than his play. He’s a rich man’s Scott Mayfield at his best, and his reputation is greater than his on ice performance. There’s a reason his analytics aren’t fantastic.

Maybe. With Tkachuk on his wing, sure.

He had one good season where he broke out of the upper-teens goal-scoring to pot 28. This year he had 40 pts in 60 some odd games.
