Anaheim isn’t trading Gibson 50% retained and Rico for scraps

Once again that lame offer doesn't get John Gibson retained at 50% for the next 4 years. Need to add a 1st round pick if you want retention.

I originally had a first alongside those picks but I removed it following some discussion with other fans. I'll modify the trade on both of the simulations and see the feedback.

NJD can’t officially trade the 2024 1st round pick because it’s conditional on the Timo Meier trade.

Bottom-6 Boqvist and backup Vanecek are no improvement on Henrique and Gibson, especially if Vanecek ends up costing us more for his two seasons than two seasons of Gibson would cost us.

The charm of including Vanecek in any proposed trade is vitiated by the fact that we think Lukas Dostal (whom you failed to re-sign) has a brighter future than Vanecek does. And for the next two seasons, he's a LOT cheaper.

Any Gibson trade starts with a 2023 first. You can argue that it ends there -- that's an opinion that's shared by many -- but that's where it starts. Add a first for any significant retention.

We have no incentive to move Rico. The acquiring team has to give us one, inasmuch as he would be the perfect linemate for Adam Fantilli. Frankly, Boqvist and the over-the-horizon second wouldn't make my fingers twitch.

Good value for NJD because we're getting stolen blind.

Guys, call me crazy, I’d rather not trade for Gibson. I think Vanecek and Schmid are actually our guys. Plus we know Daws will be good and hopefully Brennan to.

What's with the aggression bud? I understand you have fair criticisms for the trade but bashing my simulations this much is quite unusual for a GM tool that is truthfully basic. Labelling Boqvist as a bottom-six forward is underselling the top six ceiling still existent in his game (and encouraging signs displayed for the Devils).

Also Gibson is not the goaltender Ducks fans believe he is, despite being a near-elite goaltender at this level.

I actually don't think New Jersey needs to make this trade, but it's an option I wanted to explore because Gibson and Henrique rumors are quite intriguing and New Jersey may be a serviceable destination. Definitely not an easy trade to execute for either team involved, but intriguing regardless.

I love New Jersey's team with both sets of players and I have utmost belief in them being one of the NHL's best next teams next season if Meier and Bratt return.

I don't see any aggressive language in my previous comment. I gave you a series of reasons why this trade idea is so inadequate from Anaheim's point of view. I'll reinforce it with a different insight: $12.8 million in retention is worth a first-round draft pick in and of itself. The idea that Gibson = Vanecek plus the second and Henrique = Boqvist plus the fifth is simply absurd, on any objective level.

The fact that you say Boqvist has "a top-6 ceiling still existent in his game" and thus hasn't reached it yet concedes the accuracy of my statement that he doesn't have that status now.
