Not sure where else there is a true U25 top 4 RHD on the market. Paid the price it took. Was a good trade overall. Essentially turned an expiring UFA in Horvat into Hronek, Beauvillier, and Raty. Hronek will likely have a bigger impact on the Canucks than Horvat. Overall a good move in a retool perspective. Hronek had an amazing year as well. The Canucks have a legit top 4 defenseman outside of Quinn Hughes

I like Hronek and think he can be a very good player. But from watching him for 3+ years, his ceiling is 2nd pair RD who is a weapon on offense and struggles on defense. And then there’s the risk of another 21-22 season where he was just bad all around. I do think that was an outlier for him but it’s there. I think you could have had him for a 2nd and 3rd or 4th.

So you’re telling me 2 1sts, 2 2nds, and 2 B/B+ prospects isn’t a fair offer? That’s ridiculous.

No. You can drop one or some of the pieces and build a deal around Kasper or Raymond and Detroit's 23 1st.

The Jets have no reason to trade Connor for a collection of magic beans. You want a consistent 30 goal scorer on a fantastic contract, be prepared to pay up.

So you’re saying that since it isn’t exactly what you want it isn’t a fair deal. Jets are in need of a rebuild. It seems that Connor wants out. Seems like a good step in a rebuild would be getting 2 picks inside the top 11 of the deepest draft in recent memory, plus 2 2nds, and 2 prospects (with middle 6 and top 4 potential). You might want Kasper or Raymond, but I’m sure Chicago wanted Ottawa’s top prospect or young stud for Cat. They didn’t get it so they took the picks.
Name me 1 player who has been traded for more than 2 top 11 picks and 2 2nds, let alone with prospects. The only trade that gives more is Gretzky, and Connor is great but he’s no Gretzky.

Giving a 1st and a 2nd for Hronek? I like Hronek and was shocked we traded him. Then I saw what we got for him him and was like “yeah I’ll take that.”

That’s the cost of a top 4 RHD at 25 years old. Not gonna get much cheaper than that

Going rate for Sean Durzi on here is a 2nd and a lower prospect

Hronek is a significantly better player than Durzi. Hronek’s underlying numbers knock Durzi out of the park. Durzi isn’t a play driver like Hronek, and is not as defensively responsible

Hronek
EVO 5.3
EVD 3
Off 10.1
Def 5.5
GAR 16.3
WAR 2.8

Durzi
EVO -1.2
EVD 1.8
Off 1
Def 2
GAR 2.5
WAR 0.4

As you can see, Hronek is the better player and it isn’t even remotely close. Of course Durzi is going to cost less.

I’m not a big analytics guy. I like Hronek but he was a defensive liability a lot.

Analytics don’t say so. Analyzing defensive play is very hard to do with just the eye test. It’s not reliable. I know for a fact that most casuals like us not are not adept enough with the game to pick up the small details in a players defensive game. Offense is a lot easier to see, but defense is not

Agreed. But the eye test does show a player frequently waaaayyyyy out of position. To be fair, a lot of that could have been due to Blashill’s “coaching”.
All that said, I like Hronek and hope he has a successful career. But i wouldn’t have traded a 1st and 2nd for him.

When has Connor ever said anything about wanting out? Never. Exactly. He's never even hinted at that.

If you'd like you can take your picks offer and go and get your consistent 30 goal scorer on a fantastic contract elsewhere. If you want Connor, a player the Jets have no intention or incentive to move, it will cost you a young player you don't want to lose and Detroit's 23 1st to start.

A collection of maybes and magic brand won't cut it.

I watched a lot of Hronek video when we acquired him. He is good like 95% of them time, but when he makes a mistake, it’s a big mistake. That often makes a player look worse than they are. Good most of the time but make obvious mistakes when they happen. He isn’t a defensive liability. He just makes a couple of oopsies here and there

I guess for me, his oopsies always ended up in the back of the net when I watched.

He has said that he doesn’t want to be a part of a rebuild. And Winnipeg needs to rebuild or suffer living in Ken Holland’s hockey purgatory.
But OK. I’ll just get Konecny for a 1st, 2nd, and McIssac and keep all of the extra picks.
You’re not getting a Gretzky trade for Connor.

You're thinking of Connor Hellebuyck not Kyle Connor.

Okay. cool. You also realize Chevy has said the Jets aren't rebuilding right, so that doesn't really tell you anything. Plus where does it say Connor wants out as you stated?

He said he doesn’t want to be a part of a rebuild. Chevy may not want to, but the jets need to start a rebuild or else they’ll end up like Hollands last few years in Detroit. Jets are good but not good enough to win a cup. Their window is closing so the best thing for them would be to rebuild. Trying to prolong a closing window is how you end up with extensions to Abdelkader, Ericcson, and Nielsen

Well Hronek was one of the best defensemen in the league this year. His underlying numbers were fantastic so I am not super surprised he took that much to acquire. 25 year old top pairing defensemen are pretty rare on the trade market. Cost a lot, but it makes sense why it cost so much

I get that his stats jump off the page but as a Wings fan that has watched him play since entering the league I was shocked when we got a 1st and 2nd for him. The guy is a turnover machine and always seems to make them at the worst time. His offensive game took a nice step last year but I can still remember the bonehead turnover he made at center ice the game before he was traded. I guarantee it was that play that made Yzerman say I've got to get rid of this guy.
