TBL offseason trading Colton

Created by: JTBF81
Team: 2023-24 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 2, 2023
Published: Jun. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
To preface this, I don't believe Colton is getting traded and will be a key part of the top 6 moving ahead. However, if Tampa does entertain offers on him, this would be the kind of deal Tampa would at least consider. This also only works.if Killorn accepts the reported long term deal(aav unknown) that he may have been offered.

Why do all Lightning fans want to go long term with Killorn? Would be so much better off letting him walk and using that money for a younger and more skilled guy. The AAV on that is also horrid, you'll be paying 40 year old Killorn almost $4M.

Cap will be much higher by the time Killorn's game fell off in this scenario. Tampa isn't finding anyone else better than Killorn in the 3.5-4 range aav. Most likely Killorn walks and Colton stays long term, but if Tampa valued Killorn more, a long-term deal like this would have to be the way it worked.

I would honestly just give Colton the money he is asking for and let Killorn walk. I understand the attachment because he truly is a Tampa icon, but it would be best for the team to part ways with him. Hedman is starting to decline, Stamkos will be next. Going younger will help much more imo.

Hedman isn't declining, he dealt with an injury most of the year. He was fine in the playoffs and is still easily one of the best dmen in the game if healthy. Killorn has only got better the past 3 years, and while Colton is likely going to be cheaper and has similar abilities, if Killorn is willing to take the discounted long-term deal and Colton wants too much, it is possible Tampa keeps Killorn and gets value for Colton. Stamkos is also going nowhere more than likely, and while most Tampa fans wish he would do more in the playoffs some times, he's shown little decline in his game.
