tears of joy A backup 3rd pairing RHD and a 1st round pick for Elias Lindholm and Daniel Vlader. Not even close slick.

Agreed, but for entirely different reasons

DeSmith >> Vlader
Lindholm is a rental and not worth a 1st
Rutta isn't great but has some value.

A Selke caliber, less than 5 million dollar 1c is EASILY worth a 1st

Why even waste ur time with this. All offers declined and none of these other teams GMs would pick up your future calls.

Elias Lindholm just put up 146 points in the last two season, So don't nowhere you're coming up that he's not worth a 1st round pick.

He was (5v5) 142nd in expected goals, 32nd in Corsi, and 95th in expected goals against per 60. He might be worth a low 1st (I'll concede that) but he is certainly not a 1C on a decent team. He would be 3C on the Pens.

This year he had 35 points 5v5 and last year he had 47. In the same time period Tage Thompson had 55 and 46.

Sorry but 82 points 5v5 in two years is a bit light for a 1C.

Add in that he is a rental and the 3rd best center on that Pens team...

He would be a 3C on the Oilers: that doesn't change his value for every other team that doesn't have 2 star centers in their roster. He has averaged .89ppg in Calgary and is one of the best defensive centers in the league. That's more than Horvat who went for a 1st, a prospect , and a roster player.

I'd be happy to take Petry off PIT's hands. Even if we were to draft a future RHD stud or two (Axel Sandin Pellikka, David Reinbacher, Tom Willander) they need a few years to get to the NHL. It would have to be priced as the cap dump he is though, two 2nd round picks and it would be a fair deal. Légaré carries no value and won't even be qualified.

That's the point though - He's absolutely cooked and is a cap dump through and through.

He has 2.05 points per 60, 5v5. That puts him 88th among forwards and 44th among centers.

Note: Rankings are based on players with 500+ min played.

Horvat was traded for a middle 6 forwards, a B prospect and a protected 1st. He was traded to a team that saw him as their 1C for years to come. The Pens would not.

Based on his skill, age, comparable players traded, I would agree he is worth a protected 1st to teams who will resign him. That isn't the Pens.

I haven't. East coast and generally asleep by game time. That's why I use stats to compare players objectively. The "eye test" can be valuable but it can also create bias and mislead people. Stats, while also imperfect, are a much better basis for comparing players.

all imma say is look at the Horvat trade and his signing, Lindholm has around the same value as him. Stats don't tell the whole story

Your point was that he wasn't worth a first, which is incorrect. He absolutely is worth a 1st and more. His GSVA was 31st of all centers at 2.20 (Backlund was actually higher at. 2.40). Barzal was 2.0 even and is the 1C on NYI. I would agree that it makes little sense to trade him there. But having two 1Cs on your team didn't get them into the playoffs either. Lindholm can play the wing as well, so it not like he has to slot in at 3C, and having stall as your 3C in the glory days didn't hurt the Pens.

The defensive regression for Lindholm a GSVA was also considerably higher than Malkin, Crosby, and Horvat (0.40 vs -4, -2, -5.9, respectively). A considerable drop for all of those players this year, but Lindholm fell the least.
