Initial Creation Date: Jun. 4, 2023
Published: Jun. 4, 2023

Description
I think this could help both teams. I think buffalo is great goaltending away from truly competing in the east. They give 2 good pieces but they get a a top 3-5 goalie is fairly young.
Nashville gets a player in Savioe who is a center and a player trotz is looking for. Plus we get more draft capital. Just wonder how far we could move up in the draft with 13th, 15th and 24th pick?

Not sure Buffalo would be willing to include Savoie personally

Savioe in my opinion is a luxury in buffalo. They have so much talent in their top 6 that it would be hard for Savioe to crack it. I like watching buffalo and last year their goaltending let them down a lot. Saros can single handily win games for his team. With buffalo they have the offense to support his stellar goaltending. I get they have Levi but I don’t think he is ready but I think buffalo has the team to compete now. I don’t know just spot balling. Losing saros will hurt but Nashville needs to be building a better team and is couple years to competing again. Make since to move him now

No thx, and retain almost makes no sense to us, we will have a place in the cap in the coming years.

You might be right about Savoie being a luxury but that also depends on how certain prospects pan out as well as who of their older forwards they intend to keep.

However I'm not sure if 2 years of a Saros is worth paying that. Buffalo is missing 3 major parts. A top 4 RH defensive defenseman, a starting goalie to shelter and mentor Levi, and development time. Basically I don't think they are truely contending in the next 2 years but I could see them being a contender in 3-5 years from now. Unfortunately Saros doesn't fit that timeline. He makes a lot more sense for someone like Carolina or LA to target

Can't see Buffalo doing this, atleast not at that price. There are G options in FA that could fit what the Sabres need. Rather use are assets on a good Top 3-4 Dman, someone who can slot between Power and Samuelsson. With Samuelsson injury issues need someone who can help cover that if it continues.

Downgrade savoie to ostlund and I'll do it. No need for retention. Keep your 2nd

There are good goalies BUF could trade for instead of Saros that would cost less (Hellebuyck, Ullmark), but the UFAs this summer aren't exactly a bumper crop. Jarry, Hill, and Korpisalo are the only ones of note under 30.

If BUF wants a top four RD, maybe NSH includes Fabbro, instead of the picks here.

first, NSH is not trading Juice. Second in some bizzare-o world where they did, BUF doesnt ALSO get draft picks and salary retention. WHF? No , They get Juice, WE get Savole, 2023 1st AND 2024 1st, and the also maybe 2023 2nd and 2023 3rd . Thats how it goes, if goes, which it will never.

Anderson, Raanta, Varly if he chooses. Don't need one under 30. Just one that will give me a year or 2 of Development help with Levi

I'd be wary signing anyone in that age range - especially for two years. Anderson and Raanta were fine in CAR, but what happens to their numbers when they don't have such a defensively strong backend in front of them?

Is BUF looking to get competitive yet, or are they still rebuilding?

Looked pretty competitive with Levi in net. Think they need someone that can play 35gms or so and they will ride Levi. Hell he might go into the season with Levi and UPL. Another Good top D and better overall team defense would go along way.

We missed the playoffs by 1 point. We should be making the playoffs this season

I think the main problem is not the goalie, but the defense, the depth of defense and the forwards, who have not always defended well. The 41-year-old Anderson had an average season posting normal numbers. We don't even necessarily need some kind of long-term answer. The average goalie and the top 4 D will probably take us to the playoffs.

I like Saros, but I'm not ready to trade Savoie, Kulich or Levi. Adams had already decline to trade Savoie or Kulich for Chychrun. I would be ready to offer Ostlund or Rosen + 13OA for Saros, but no more. There are plenty of other goaltenders on the market too if Nashville isn't interested.

I like saros, but that's too much. I can't even remember the last time anybody got assets like that for a goalie, that's not a trade that's gonna get made. It makes more sense to me to find a couple defensive d and probably a defensively responsible center to limit the absurd high danger chances we give up. By cleaning up the defensive zone in front of the goalie, I think you give yourself a chance with just an average vet goalie. If you look at the Sabres recent history, goalies that looked just OK here- like lehner and ullmark have left for teams with better team defense and been in the conversation for the vezina. What it says to me to overpay for hellebuyck or saros is- "we just can't figure out how to fix this, so the only thing we can do is trade more high value assets than the market has seen moved in decades, for a superhero to come in and stand on his head and save us".

Well the reason you don’t see goalies get this much in return is because top3-5 goalies don’t get traded. Name me the last one that was traded. Nashville is in a spot that trading a top goalie maybe the only thing to do because we’re not competing now

Hasek. Got traded for a first and Slava kozlov. Possibly the best goalie to ever play the game. Goalies dont get moved for multiple high end pieces.

Hasek was also 37 years old when he was traded from buffalo to Detroit
