Initial Creation Date: Jun. 5, 2023
Published: Jun. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Both Toronto and Vancouver get to dump enormous amount of cap, montreal will have to make more moves to get rid of edmundson if muzzin is back off LTIR at some point, they can also trade Meyers half retaind for a pick

Toronto dump some cap but get a goalie with an ok cap hit and Beauvillier at 3M for a top 6 player it isn't bad

Vancouver dump enough cap so they can get players in free agency if they want while getting a quality 5-6th RD and hoffman at 2.5M to take boeser spot on the PP, they do trade the 11th pick away but they get back 2 late 1st and a good RD prospect

Don’t completely hate it from a Canucks perspective, but not sure if they’d want to move that far back

Can’t see Toronto doing that though. They already have Samsonov and Woll so they don’t need Allen, and giving a 1st + Niemela for Beauvillier and to dump Murray seems like too much

They would be shedding and gaining cap by moving him though. With him gone they could do what they're famous for and accrue cap space at a high rate

but when he is on ltir he doesnt count towards the cap anyways. and they will be spending to the cap i think.

They would definitely rather be out of LTIR than in it, but the cost won't be a 1st/2nd to move one yr of LTIR Muzzin. Besides this move gives them 3 goalies and they can't keep all 3. They have one has RFA I imagine they want to sign at least for a year and another that needs waivers that they probably want to keep. And though a team like them will always want cap space, they are not dying for it and they could probably move Murray somewhere else.

He doesn't but the bonuses of not using LTIR far out weigh having that extra money. Teams can manoveour with more freedom and can pile up a cap gain to use the money at the TDL.

It's very complicated but basically everyday you're under the cap you gain that cap space back to use at another time. Players in LTIR count against that cap and dont let teams accrue more money to use at a later date.

That would be the main benefit to getting rid of the Muzzin contract

Well, by moving Muzzin, the Leafs can accure cap space during the season, so depending on how tight they get, that would be the logic. Can't do that with LTIR of that magnitude.

Leafs have Woll (no longer waiver exempt) and Samsonov, so Allen is redundant.

More than that. The Leafs organizational defensive depth is ridiculously thin. Moving from a complete position of weakness. That is why this doesn't work.

Now.....

Beauviller and Ylönen may add offensive depth to the Leafs at a reasonable contract cost, neither solve what is needed the most in the top 9 - and that is sandpaper.

Knies looks like he can supply some of that, but more is needed. Players that can get in the trenches and open up ice for the "core 4". Beauviller and Ylönen simply do nothing to move the needle.

So, the Leafs trade.... Given everything? The only benefit would be clearing Muzzin's contract, and at that cost, much further ahead to hang in to it.

But I like the outside the box thinking.

If the habs have someone interested in allen if ship him out and send you the return (4 way trade lol) but basically i thought he'll be a replacement for murry who will cost to dump...)
