That deal is awful for Ottawa

- Roslovic is UFA to be and not the type of player the Sens need (not good defensively)

- Chinakhov is nothing special

- Merzlikins has 4 years left at 5.4 AAV. Dorion paid picks to get rid of a better goalie for 2 years less and with retention, less money

- Roslovic is a placeholder if we can't sign any Top 6 forwards this season.

- Chinakhov is a former 1st round pick from 2020 on a cheap 1 year deal.

- Merzlikins' numbers are only bad because of the team in front of him.

- We're getting a 1st for 2023.

I... don't hate it for any of the three teams involved, actually. DeBrincat is a luxury for a team who already has wings as good as Gaudreau/Johnson/Laine/Marchenko, and that's a lot to give up for a rental, but he's from Michigan (so nearby and hopefully more likely to extend with Columbus) and it would take an overpay to move Elvis's contract. Elvis badly needs a change of scenery, but there is still a good goalie in there who earned the contract. If anything, there needs to be one more piece going to Calgary if the deal is for both Hanifin and Lindholm unless they're both pure rentals (and if they are, that's too much to give up). Jarmo is clearly betting his job on Babcock working out, so I'm sure we'll see some absolutely bonkers moves this summer from him.

Also for the FA signings: Love the idea of bringing Gus back for veteran presence. Broissoit is a good, solid backup who can fill in as starter when Tarasov inevitably gets hurt.

- he sucks defensively though, signing any UFA forward should be better

- soon 23, nothing special. We have our own projects

- yes but still massively overpaid at 5.4 x 4 years, very risky contract

- only valuable asset here.

I would much rather do the trade with Pittsburgh for their 1st ++.

The Kings 1st is 22nd OA

I'm 100% on the "play the kids, make the picks, the window is 2 years from now" train, but I really like this roster for now and the future. Really good blend of getting help now and not mortgaging the future. There's still a lot of question marks (does that 3rd pair hold up or get caved in? Are the goalies good enough? Can Texier immediately slot in as the 3C? Etc.), but any team will have that.

You'd have to think that extending the RFAs/UFAs here and adding whoever we get at 3OA next year makes this team a (conservative) contender, so long as the key rookies develop as expected.

Really nicely done, IMO!
