revamp

Created by: Pensfan303
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 4, 2023
Published: Jun. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-- With Dubas now in the mix, I do believe we will see 1 or 2 FA signings from his old leafs team as there is familiarity there.

-- We take the L on Granlund and buy him out instead of spending assets to dump him. He only costs us 900k this season and 1.9 the following 3 which should not be an issue with the cap rising.

-- Zucker walks as chances are he is going to look for 1 final pay day and with his age and injuring history, I think it's probably best to let him walk

-- After a up and down season, Jarry is re-signed on a 2 year prove you can be our guy deal. A low risk contract if it doesn't work out and if Jarry does pefrom, he gets a shot at 1 final pay day at age 30.

-- David Kampf comes in to Center the 4th line as he is very good on faceoffs, plays the PK and can chip in on offense.

-- Soucy is brought in to be the big DFD that can play the Pk and clear the front of the net. Hes a massive improvement over Dumo and could slot anywhere on the defense.

-- Bunting is brought in to be Zuckers replacement. He's a great speedy TWF who can easily get under a opponents skin. With Dubas now in charge, I feel like Bunting and Kampf have pretty good chances of being in Black and Gold unless Toronto re-signs them.

-- Luke Glendening may not be a flashy name and may be old af, but with he is still a good veteran defensive foward and more importantly, a right shot center that isn't Jeff Carter and gets paid nothing. So if he sucks we can send him packing pretty easily. Every good team has at least 1 right shot center they can rely on for their strong side in the defensive zone on crucial faceoffs and as a 4th liner, he doesn't need to play much.

-- Nylander, Puustinen and DOC fight it out for the 3rd line LW in Preseason. Worse of the 3 gets dealt for a late pick

Chicago trades up for Sadin-Pellikka or Reinbacher
CHI
  1. 2023 1st round pick (PIT)

Draft Trade

#14 OA

Pens trade down and gain a 2nd round pick. The difference between 14 and 19 isn't much different and I wouldn't draft a dmen with #14 anyway
2.
PIT
  1. Vejmelka, Karel
Additional Details:
Draft day, day 2 trade

Vejmelka to me is perfect 1B to Tristan Jarry if the pens are to go that route instead of persuing one of the big 3 in Ulmark, Hellebuyck and Gibson. Vejmelka has been good on a pretty bad ARZ team and is capable of being a starter and in this case splitting games with Jarry as the pens look to reduce his load in order to help reduce his injury risks.
ARI
  1. DeSmith, Casey
  2. Légaré, Nathan
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Draft day, day 2 trade

#55 OA

Desmith goes back the other way as ARZ needs another Goaltender since Prosvetov did not impress in his showings last season. If Desmith peforms well in split duties with Ingram, it's another asset ARZ can flip at the deadline.

Legare a former 3rd round pick projects as a bottom 6 gritty power foward
3.
PIT
  1. Anderson-Dolan, Jaret [RFA Rights]
  2. Durzi, Sean
Additional Details:
Offseason trade

With the Kings having a log jam on the right side of the defense and needing a young LD, I believe a swap like this could make a lot of sense in this scenario.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan could be a nice piece to the Bottom 6 as he looks to finally be a full time NHL player. Hes a versatile foward which Sully likes, good skater, plays bigger than his 5'11 frame might indicate. He is simply blocked in LA by so many good fowards that hes at best stuck on the 4th line for LA and that's not the best for him.

LA also has a plethora of foward prospect so Anderson - Dolan could be moved? If not a foward like Rasmus Kupari would also interest me however I don't think LA would move Kupari.
LAK
  1. Smith, Ty
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Offseason trade

Young OFD for young OFD

Ty Smith is a young left shot OFD who is poised to be a full time NHL option next season. He can easily QB a 2nd PP if needed and with the plan on Moving Rutta, Pens use his value to get a young right shot dmen in Durzi.
4.
PIT
  1. 2023 5th round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
ANY Team
ANA
  1. Rutta, Jan
Additional Details:
Any team needing a veteran right shot dmen
5.
PIT
  1. Garland, Conor
Additional Details:
With Vancouver needing to clear cap space badly, they pull the trigger on a Conor Garland trade.
VAN
  1. Poulin, Samuel
Additional Details:
JR drafted prospect in need of a change of scenary, hes still projected to be a midddle 6 center at the NHL level and he could get a shot on Vancouver's 3rd line right away.

Quick note: Chicago's Director of Player Personnel has already said the Blackhawks were prioritizing forwards at the top of the draft so I doubt they are trading up to 14 or staying at 19 to take a defensemen. The team's prospect pool would seem to suggest that as well.

That's good to know, Prolly will look at another team in future ACGM then unless theres a foward they would want at 14

Pass from Vancouver. While we do need a 3rd line center, Poulin is not it.

I mean i keep seing Garland being dumped for a 3rd or worse so my thought behind this is JR and PA take a shot on one of their former 1st round picks

Agree Chicago may make that trade to move up but they won't target a D. Might go after a C like Yager or Danielson.

If the hawks had Reinbacker at 14 as the BPA I think they would take him.

I don't know who's dumping Garland for a 3rd, I wouldn't, but I might take the draft pick over Poulin.

AZ passes, trading for 5 years older goalie w worse numbers and year less on contract while saving only 1 mil in contract isnt worth a B AHL prospect and #55 pick (when AZ has too many picks already)

I can't see us trading Durzi and not getting a 2023 second in the deal, especially if we're adding a forward prospect who has progressed further than any of Pittsburgh's forward prospects like Legare or Poulin or Puustinen.

Oh yeah. There are definitely forwards to be considered at 14th. He was just saying CHI won't be looking at defensemen. Not unless we acquire additional 1st round picks. But even then I don't think it'd be a focus.

Hard pass on the Arizona trade. Everyhting else looks good for the most part.

I'd shuffle the lines a little - as I think that 3rd line will struggle. DOC should start as well.

As i said in the description 3rd line LW would be a fight between DOC, Nylander and Puustinen and worse of the 3 gets dealt for a late pick

Fair enough - didn't make it that far lol.

Although my comment was more directed towards Kampf should be 3C and DOC should be in over Glendening.

Glendening is really only there so Sully has his right shot center and as a result, Carter can sit haha
