EDM would have to throw in some prospects or higher pick/picks for the Caps to consider that kind of retention. Like this, no chance.

Edm not buying out soupy yet

This is a really easy decline for the caps. We’re getting nothing interesting back at all and losing key role players in Dowd and TVR. On top of it, we’re retaining 2M on the guys we’re moving for a year. Zero reason to do this. Edmonton gets useful players and Washington gets pieces they don’t need or want.

I do think the caps could have some interest in Yamamoto, but this doesn't seem to be the kind of deal that works for them. Maybe Yamamoto and a third for Mantha retained.
