this seems like a lot of work to shed $500k in cap on a backup goalie.

In what world is Sakic going to allow a 32 year old ROR a 6.5 mill deal, AND sign Jonathan Toews to a 1 mill deal and throw him on the 4th line? hahahaha Also, Avs want a stellar 2nd line center, not a plethora of random picks. the team is already very young and full of potential. If Landy wasnt hurt and Nichuskin (off ice issues), they couldve ran a repeat. they wanna stabilize their top 2 lines.

CHI trade could end up bad for CHI depending on where the COL 1st and VAN 2nd end up in 2024. But, I'd be willing to take that chance. It would be a fairly marginal descrepancy in value anyway.

Yep. My thoughts exactly. Worth the risk.

AZ takes on 3 semi useful but expiring contracts (6 mil) for a year and gives up 2x 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th for #14 OA- cut it to one 2nd and sure

Toews for 1m is such a low risk. His defense was still pretty good last year. Brings alot to the locker room. And he was league best at faceoffs last year. Thats pretty important and if you put him in a 4th line role i think he would thrive. And if he cant stay healthy you've got very little invested and you can address it at the TDL.

To change backup goalie and yo gain three 2nd round picks costs two first round picks. That seems stupid for a win now team.

Not why I suggested the trade. If I wanted to shave cap space, woulda easily traded someone else. Purpose of the trade is to bring a better backup and for Pens to bail out cap

Exactly. I know RoR might not make sense too, but he's good enough to make another win-now team (TOR) want him at the deadline

Win now teams are concerned on now, not the future, so now's first rounders are worthless. Also, win now teams need good trading assets to get win now players

That the problem. all that trading doesn't make them better or give them better assets to trade away. Franky is quality backup, that has proven himself in cup-run. Connor Ingram isn't any better, arguably he's a downgrade.

Is he tho? Last year, Ingram had a .907 save percentage (not bad) while Francouz had a .915. While Francouz slightly edged him here, you must remember that Ingram played 11 more games than Franky and that Ingram is on a bad team, so clearly he can play well without help from a good defensive core. If he came to COL, he'd thrive.

There's also the fact that he's younger than Franky and is less injury prone (so far, but this might not be a bad chance to take).
