Trades:

Carolina is a great fit for Edmundson and renting him for a 4th seems a better move than spending 5-6 million for 5 or more years on Graves or 4-5 million for 5 years on Soucy.

Hoffman probably isn’t going anywhere but if we retain 50% and attach some valuable future I think we could move him to another rebuilder. We have to get something back though or it’s a waste because ultimately we don’t have to trade him.

The last deal is just me trying to find a way to jump into another later 1st. I’m not happy with the Florida pick being so late now, so I looked for a contender who may look to trade down. Colorado has very few draft assets, so trading down and getting a couple prospects as well as an early 2nd and a 3rd next year seems close to what it should take to jump into another 1st rounder.

Will Smith’s ELC should be 3 years.

I mean I guess the Avs have to accept I don’t know why MTL does it though, but could be a low key good deal for the Avs.

I'd rather keep Kapanen and get nothing for Hoffman instead of moving Kapanen for less than he's worth.

PIT would probably consider trading 14OA for 31OA + 37OA and other picks/prospects

Hoffman is the buyout candidate of the year

Why would we trade a top euro prospect for no reason

Canes pass. Edmundson didn't work as a 3LD here once, trying it again is what Einstein defined as insanity

I’m assuming you mean Kapanen? I wouldn’t classify him as a top prospect of any sort. As far as centres go Kidney, Beck, and quite possibly Smith after this draft will all be ahead of him.

The Avs should pounce on that deal. Move a few picks down for a 3rd next year and two prospects? Sure.

To move up 10 spots in this draft would be significant for us. The prospects are not high end and I doubt either becomes much in terms of having an NHL future. It basically is pick 37 and a 3rd next year for pick 27.

We could also not pay for Hoffman, one of the biggest locker room cancers in the league. Nor do we even have room for another bottom 6 forward.

Canes dumped Eddy on the Habs already, and there was a reason for that. He didn’t work at 3LD once already, the Canes aren’t going to try that again.

He wasn’t dumped on us. That was a steal for us. His pairing with Petry was the backbone of our blueline. I think the reception of him in Carolina comes from who you traded to get him.

Obviously. He’s producing in a pro league at 19 and he’s easily a top 10 prospect on the team. Why would we trade him for a guy who’s contract we can just eat. He’s worth a 2nd rounder just by himself

I get that but part of the appeal I guess is COL does need to replenish the farm system and they have had very few picks the last couple of drafts and they have aging out prospects.

I'm optimistic about Kapanen. He's been faring quite well as a 19 year-old against men in Europe. Beck is promising but he needs a final year in junior (or alternately a stint in an elite European league). I'm mildly concerned about his lack of offence. I'm not convinced Kidney's game translates to pro hockey but of course I hope to be proven wrong.

At this point, I place Kapanen ahead of both Beck and Kidney.
