what the cap is going on here

Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2023
Published: Jun. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I selected Barlow as my choice for the first pick in 2023, considering the possibility that Smith might be drafted earlier than the 5th position. Given the team's need for size, unless Benson is available or they are willing to accommodate his size, he may experience a slight drop in the draft order. Montreal Canadiens' immediate requirement for greater physical presence, I believe Barlow is the appropriate selection if Smith has already been taken. I stay away from Michkov .. too much to take on with too much risks.

Furthermore, I propose granting Gurianov an opportunity to demonstrate his value by extending a qualifying offer and assessing his performance throughout the upcoming season. If his performance does not meet expectations, we can part ways with him at the conclusion of the season.

Regrettably, I have made the decision to reassign Wideman to Laval. I will communicate to him the importance of his contribution to the development of our young defensemen. By providing assistance to them, he may potentially secure a position or advance his career prospects beyond the current season.

To assist the Washington Capitals in alleviating their financial burden, I recommend facilitating the removal of Mantha from their books. This move entails minimal cost to the Capitals while granting them $12 million in additional salary cap space for the current year, allowing them to pursue a valuable unrestricted free agent acquisition to complement Ovechkin's pursuit of Gretzky's record.

Furthermore, I propose a trade to assist the Vancouver Canucks in managing their salary cap, ensuring they maintain the necessary financial flexibility. However, this arrangement would require the Canucks to provide compensatory draft picks, and in return, they would receive cost-effective AHL players and potentially one NHL player in Condotta.

Looking ahead to the 2024-25 season, we anticipate having approximately $24 million in available salary cap space. This projection allows us the opportunity to negotiate a favorable contract extension with Montembeault, potentially in the range of $4-5 million per year, should he perform at a high level during the upcoming season. Additionally, we will have sufficient resources to pursue new unrestricted free agents or re-sign Xhekaj as required.

  1. Mantha, Anthony
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Take Mantha off of WASH cap hit; they can then move or resign players. Cost them a 3rd round pick in 2024. And would be conditional to the best of the three picks they have on hand.

    1. Beauvillier, Anthony
    2. 2023 3rd round pick (TOR)
    3. 2024 4th round pick (NJD)
    Additional Details:
VAN need cap space and prospects; Sund is so-so; Gordin could be ok, but Condotta has been valuable is a proven player in Laval and did good in his NHL debut game.
    VAN
    1. Condotta, Lucas [RFA Rights]
    2. Gordin, Alexander [Reserve List]
    3. Sund, Tony [Reserve List]
    Additional Details:
Habs take on Beauvillier's contract but get more picks.
    3.
    MTL
    1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc [RFA Rights]
    Additional Details:
WIN get better than advertized in a 1st and 2nd round picks; They get a good prospect in Kostenko; a good center who's got 2 years left on his contract under 5M$/yr and PItlick who can run on the 4th or even be included in another trade.

Basically give Chev some good options instead of losing a player for nothing.

Let's be real that Vancouver trade is a bunch of nothing for a 3rd 4th and Beauvillier. They decline and find a different way to get the cap out

Nothing of value besides the picks for WPG. Another team would beat it.

Why do Jets fan think Chev will get something great for a player who's indicated wanting out, and will have MTL has a top team to sign with?.. PS he also never had a better year than 63pts... He's not worth the headacke for another team who will never know if he will want out again.

As a rental, he would return just as much or more. And MTL fans need to understand that PLD doesn't ONLY want to go to MTL, he would consider other big markets.

Nothing in it for Winnipeg. Extremely easy no for the Jets.

I normally do put in Leonard. THis is a just a different one, Barlow instead. I know he's a bit higher, around 9th. But yeah, Leonard would be better as my other AGM teams put him in if Smith ain't available.

And yep, LOL! I wanted to test ChatGPT on the NHL side.. I just asked it to re-write some of my text.. I found funny enough to put it here. LOL!
