Deep retool for cup in 2026

Created by: Danny_Canuck
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2023
Published: Jun. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
One more year of pain, but with a plan you can sell Petey on. Use the 11th and 24th pick to get Reinbacher. Otherwise if he drops pick him up along with BPA in late round. Pray OEL re-discovers a 4LD game for next two seasons, but don't plan on it (plan for buyout after this year). We have 3 legit top four d-man aged 18-26 for next five years. 2 high end goalies. Find a way to acquire a young 2C with new found draft capital and modest cap space. Draft tons of C and D. Push all chips in once Johansen expires/retires. Give Petey/Hughes the five year window they deserve.

CBJ pass on that contract, and can probably get a bit more for Rosy.

I think there are a bunch of different and better uses for that cap space at the TDL for the Canes.

Just a template not necessarily thinking it'll be the Canes. I think Myers will return decent value from someone once he's expiring and has nothing left in cap or cash on his deal.

Was wondering what CBJ fans would think of JTM. Nice plug in 1/2C for a team that seems to need a C for those wingers relatively soon.

No one will pay for Myers at the deadline. I get he only makes a million in real money, but that is still a ridiculous cap hit. Even 2.5 mil retained, it's 3.5 against the cap

Shouldn't have much issue getting that value for Boeser, but don't think it'll be from MN. If he comes home, it'll be in 2 years when he's UFA and our 14.7M in dead cap finally drops off.

Disagree. Every deadline GM's drool at big RHD. Notably now that teams with bid D are thriving in playoffs. And at the deadline that's very little in prorated cap. 677k cap and basically zero cash.

It's a lazy move to assume MN I agree. Figured taking a contract back like Foligno could make it work. Also thinking MN is gonna need some scoring punch asap unless they go rebuild.

It has been pretty well covered that Jackets fans want nothing to do with his contract.

They'll be drafting a Center with their 3rd overall pick that'll be in the lineup this year. Leo Carlsson, Adam Fontilla or Will Smith

I don't really think about the Jackets much so didn't know this. Is this recent reporting?

Yeah that's huge - you guys must be stoked. Having a cost controlled C for 3 years is another reason they can go a little more aggressive with a higher priced Center IMO. Time is ticking on Gaudreau, Werenski, Laine.

I mean, sure he’s got good game as a T6 C. I think he could find a fit as cover for Carlsson/Smith, particularly if CBJ trade some of the excess they have in their F group.

That being said, I just don’t want anything to do with that contract. Too long and too expensive at his age. And that’s before we get to his full NMC - he ain’t waving to go to a rebuilding and messy CBJ club.

There was a window where he could fit in a place like PIT; but, at this point I think you aren’t moving that contract without retention.

Nah I don't think it's lazy - it's not a bad thought and taking back Foligno def makes it work from a cap standpoint. I mean, for all I know, they'd be all over this. But, we've just continued to hear from MN reporters that Guerin is basically trying to hold serve the next two years and doesn't want to move high value pieces like 1sts or blue chip prospects just yet. Once those buyouts come off, I think he'll be very active and open to moving futures.

His NMC hasn't kicked in yet so he has literally zero protection now. Even though he has relatively low mileage and is very sturdy, I agree on the contract term concern. I think he'll provide good value for next four years. Notably when the cap spikes and an 8M C looks like an absolute bargain.

Yeah figured - that one seemed to be the least realistic of them all. Too bad because it would be cool for him to come home for what could be his last two years and it we shipped out Miller it's a clean cap swap.

Seattle passes. Don't need another winger on this team. Center depth and d-men is what they are probably looking for.

I don’t see any way Minnesota trades their 1st. Not in this draft.
