taking tanking to a whole new level

Created by: Tintin
Team: 2023-24 Arizona Coyotes
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2023
Published: Jun. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The 14-15 Sabres aint got 5h!t on us.

As much as it'd suck, I think it makes sense to deal Schmaltz and Keller.
This team won't be ready to contend for a meaningful duration on Keller's and Schmaltz's contracts, better to trade them for as much value as possible and set yourself up for two more years of bottoming out.
With the amount of futures added to this team and the already decent prospect core the Yotes should enter the 25-26 season as one of the strongest and youngest teams in the league.

Besides, the forward lineup below does have some flashy and intriguing names on it and the goalie tandem isn't too shabby.
That D corps though, nightmare fuel.

Lemme know what you guys think

I think they would go bankrupt

League would keep them afloat via revenue sharing.
    Or they'd relocate.

0% chance for VAN to do that, ARZ would happily take Myers for Future Considerations given that he'll help them get to the cap floor and only cost them $1M

Not 24 hours ago the Kings paid a decent prospect and a 2nd to dump 5m. My suggested Myers dump is more or less the going rate.

Chances are the current owner loses the team if that happens , so it's a loss for him, a loss for Bettman, and aloss for local fans, potentially the entire FO.

Only player I'd move the 8th overall pick for on the Coyotes is Keller.

you don't understand how much Myers could help ARZ, having a $6M cap hit but only needing to be paid $1M would be huge for a team that bleeds six figures daily.

Canucks decline. If that’s what it takes to dump Myers, then we’ll just keep him instead and move him at the deadline 50% retained for a pick.

They could hit the cap floor so easily. All they need to do is give some UFAs large 1 year deals. Getting to the cap floor really isn’t difficult.

They're dumping Peterson for twice as long. They cleared up 10 million

They need to pay them that money though. 6M cap hit = 6M dollars that Arz is struggling to pay vs 1M with Myers.

I really like Schmaltz to DC, but if you're getting #8, we'd want Keller. We'd have to add to it, but I don't think #8 is in play for anyone other than Keller, Nylander, Bratt, and maybe DeBrincat or Ehlers

Keller, Bratt, or Debrincat. One year of Nylander or two years of Ehlers isn’t enough to fetch the 8th overall pick imo. Realistically, I’d only want to move it for Keller personally.

I'd do it for Nylander if you know there's an extension in place. Otherwise yea, it's not worth it

I’d rather just wait until he’s a UFA. I’d move the 2024 1st plus for him especially if there’s an extension, but that 2023 pick is borderline untouchable aside from the top tier players in the league.

Isles decline. It won't cost that much to dump Bailey. George is a good prospect.

I think it'd be good for them, Keller fits decently well with their timeline and is a great player in and of himself.

From what I've seen Schmaltz and Keller are roughly equally good, however they may not have the exact same strengths and weaknesses. That's what I believe anyway.
Since Schmaltz is a bit easier on the cap than Keller and has the exact same term as Ovi I think it'd make a ton of sense to do this.
Schmaltz could also play C in a pinch so depending on what happens with Kuz and Bäckström he might fill another need there.
I do get why you'd be hesitant to move pick #8 but my feeling is that if the Caps keep the pick whomever they'll draft won't be able to make a meaningful impact towards one last cup run with this Caps core and will later on be on an island by himself as Caps are finally starting their rebuild.

Kings are also retaining 2m for 2 years on Provy's deal. They're clearing 6m, just like with Tyler Myers but stretched over two years.
Anyway, if you want the Canucks to waste another year of Quinn's and Elias's primes by keeping anchors like Myers on their roster then god bless.

Decent prospect + 2nd is the going rate for dumping 5-6m of bad cap.

I do like Keller but not crazy about the package and I only say that because of the uncertainty of Bratt's extension. If things don't go our way, I'd rather hang onto Holtz while his ELC deal is in tact and see who adds in a Keller for Bratt deal.

If Keller and Schmaltz are roughly equally good, I'd do that same trade and swap Schmaltz for Keller. But I know the response will be "no, the Coyotes won't do that." Because Keller is better, younger, and has more term on his contract. Schmaltz is a fantastic player, no doubt, but he's not worth a top 10 pick in this draft. And even with moving out Mantha's contract, the value doesn't add up for the caps.

He’s only owed $3.5M in real cash though with only 1 year left and isn’t nearly as bad as some of players in cap-dump-trades lately.
