Just another idea if Marner doesn't end up in a Canes uniform by September... Although he does fit nicely with Svech and Aho

No as said in that last thread this could not work at all. Calgary has 1.25M cap space to sign 3-4 players currently, this would put them 2.4M over the cap now with 4-5 roster spots to fill and 1 less NHL ready ELC to do so with

It's a steep price but I suppose if you aren't uncomfortable with the trade, then it isn't realistic.

Why is everyone so set on Marner to Calgary? The flames would have to move a significant amount of cap to even fit him in. Marner wouldn’t even be able to be on the top line because there is another 10+ million pass first winger there already. Marner definitely isn’t resigning in Calgary, he is a big market guy. Marner will probably go to a team in win now mode and given that Calgary missed the playoffs they definitely shouldn’t in win now mode. If it’s a Marner to Calgary trade it doesn’t make sense.

Read the description please... Where it says, the expansion upon the 1st trade and not the trade itself. Obviously, Calgary doesn't do it but it was more of a: How would you improve this team after a trade like above

IDT Marner gets traded but, it was a hypothetical of a: How would you improve this team after a trade like above

Really? I do think if you remove the picks, then it's a little more realistic but really?

Please stop. You didn't trade him to Carolina so I was spared from this BS...

What, you are tired of telling everyone that your 15th ranked prospect and a middle 6 winger are worth more than Marner?

You are precious, one of those people who would rather lose a trade and make your team worse than have a leafs player who immediately becomes your best player. Your type is the best

The fact you think Martin Necas is a prospect, let alone ranked 15th is comical on it's own. Shush now

No, I'm content with Leaf players when they help the Canes. I was content with Freddie, would have been with Marleau, Kase etc. Marner is a bad fit. I'm more than happy with Marner if the cost isn't roster pieces, I've been quite vocal about that. He doesn't do enough to justify it.

But I'm afraid your little narrative of "Leafs against the world" is overblown.

No, I think Calgary would take that given Tkatchuk's departure. They obviously get the best player in the deal, but it shores up multiple positions for the leaf's, and none of those players are bottom 6 players. Hanifin really stepped up in the last half of the season and is young enough to resign. Dube broke the 45 pt mark even with a lower s% than normal and can play any position in the line up. Pelletier has wheels and will be a top 6 winger (he just needs to work on his 200ft game...granted, small NHL sample size).

They'd make cap room elsewhere. I feel that the Florida pick could get pushed out a year and be high, as their window is now, not in 3 years (assuming they keep the 2025). *Conditions: If the 2025 1st RD pick that Florida sent to Calgary is a lottery pick resulting in Calgary receiving Florida's 2026 1st RD pick instead, then the 2025 4th RD pick that Calgary sent to Florida also slides to 2026* Just call it a feeling, but I think Florida declines in 2025.

Two paragraphs so going to reply to each individually to avoid confusion, I agree that they aren't bottom 6 nhl players, Hanifin is to provide a 1a/1b/1c paring with Rielly and McCabe so coach has confidence in any pairing that rolls out (I put Severson with Hannifin to cover his need to jump up in the play, like Schenn was to Rielly and Lilly with McCabe so McCabe has another puck moving defensemen to rely on).
As for Duke, He's there on his speed and drive, he's going to be the 3rd guy back every time to allow JT and ROR to thrive down low.
Pelletier was there to form a version of the 'kid' line that NYR had. I am huge on Minten and Knies and could see this line becoming one of the most underrated lines in sports. They are all fast, hard on the puck and have a burning desire to assert themself and have an identity in the league, Something that should pan out in the NHL.

Agree, but Calgary needs to get rid of the Huberdeau contract when he has his bounce back season, same with Kadri's... besides that, they need depth up front (Marner would help with that) and they look good to go

The Kadri contract is a painful one for us, and we all knew it would be when it happened. It's not so much the play of Kadri himself. He put up 50+ pts and was a serviceable center. It's more so that we paid a 1st to Montreal to shed Monahan's contract , which was totally unnecessary. Kadri wasn't impactful enough to warrant the 1st we gave up and the seven year deal. Who knows, maybe Boston will take him.

I'm confident Huberdeau will bounce back under a new coach. So many players had bad seasons under Sutter, which is typical of hard nosed coaches: players perform well, and then stop responding. Too much stick, not enough carrot
