Debrincat to Detroit

Created by: Z0ra
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2023
Published: Jun. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
According to Friedmann, the Red Wings is Debrincat's preferred destination. Debrincat's agent just released a list of teams today.

In my recent mock, I have the Red Wings drafting Zach Benson. I think he has a good chance of making the NHL next year. Only hole in his game is size but as proven in the past, that doesn't matter.

Fair enough. Detroit adds a second then, I just edited the trade.

Its a good line combo, but Zadina needs a change of scenery. Ottawa also needs a young goal-scorer like him to complement Stutzle and Tkachuk.

Yeah Debrincat for #17, #43 and a Zadina type is fine with me. Rather just draft a player with those picks though.

Zadina has not proved he had the goal-scoring ability he was promised to have.

The problem with Debrincat is you have to spend a couple of top picks, then you have to pay him $8m+ long term (or $9m+ for 1 year). I have a hard time seeing Stevie doing that, unless he think Debrincat puts them over the top (which I don't think he does, still a lot of holes). Steve could wait 1 year and not pay any draft pick to get him, when DET is closer to competing.

In the end, I think OTT doesn't get anywhere near market value for him (similar to the Dubois issue, he wants to go to MTL, no one is going to pay top picks for Dubois, and MTL has WPG caught because no one wants to pay for 1 year). The other options are OTT signs him for $9m/1 year, and trade him at the deadline, or (least likely), they don't qualify him, making him a free agent. Option 3 won't happen, because OTT would just take the best deal they can find. OTT has new ownership coming in, which will affect what they pay (which is why Option 3 is on the list).

In that case, maybe Rasmussen and Wallinder to Ottawa? Instead of Zadina

That's too much, nor do they need LHD.

Kubalik + Hanas is fine.

Oh! Now I get what you meant.

You are saying trade Kubalik and Hanas?

Kubalik + 17 + Hanas seem to be acceptable by Sens fans.

Same. But if he signs for $6m per, I might just be OK with it.

The odds any of those picks are ever as good as debrincat are very low. Detroit desperately needs forward help and should be looking to upgrade. Wings are just good enough to not draft top 5 but aren’t good enough to be wild card contenders. Use draft capital to get out of lottery purgatory

But we also have quite a few holes in our organization right now that those draft picks can fill. Debrincat doesn't automatically make us a playoff team. This team has alot of building to do still that mainly would get some through the draft. Also remember Debrincat was drafted #39 so you just never know.

Do you have a source proving that Friedman said the Cat's preferred destination is Detroit? I know it's rumoured that the Wings are on his list, but I haven't heard that we are his preferred destination.

That escalated quickly. Ras isn’t going anywhere unless a team just way overpays for him. Wallinder likely won’t go anywhere unless it’s part of a package for an elite player.

1st, 2nd, and Sebrango or Hirose for DeBrincat is the most I’d do.

Personally I’d try to keep Kubalik and add a McIssac or Sebrango or a 3rd/future 2nd in stead.

Edvinsson won’t be ready for opening night coming off the injury. I’d love to be wrong but I don’t think Hanas makes the team out of camp. Lindstrom is unlikely to re-sign.
Why didn’t you re-sign Veleno? Because of the stupid thing he did at the world championship? Yeah it was dumb and dirty but give the kid a chance to grown from it. It was very out of character for him and he should pay whatever consequences but he’s a young guy who can learn.

Meh; dont think any of those guys would interest Ottawa.
They're all set with LHD and need players for now, not the future.
