Description

If what Arpon Basu from The Athletic is reporting is true, PLD and his agent will be seeking a $9mil AAV x 8 year deal, and will submit to the Jets a 5-6 team list he’d be willing to sign long term with.

Jeff Marek believes that 3 of those teams are Montreal (obviously), the New York Rangers, and the Minnesota Wild. We can all speculate about the other 2-3 teams on his list. Who do you think are the other teams?

If this is the case, forget Dubois to MTL. Unless GM Kent Hughes can pull off some sort of miracle, and get PLD at a reasonable price and a contract similar to Suzuki…. I don’t think he’s worth all the trouble.

So Jets fans rejoice, Habs probably aren’t getting Dubois.

I agree with what you posted. A second line center at 9M is not really attractive.

That can't be right. Montreal fans have been assuring everyone for the last year that PLD will ONLY play for Montreal and will take whatever paltry contract Montreal fans deem acceptable.

Lol, absolutely true.

Jets fans who now think they will get the moon for PLD, you are wrong. Dubois still has his issues.

It's just nice to know (as a jets fan) that we aren't being held completely hostage by a player. A fair return is all I want and I hope this means that we will get it.

What I find ridiculous is PLD asking for a $9mil AAV… Tkachuk gets $9.5mil AAV with Florida after a 100+pts season and suddenly Dubois wants just $500k AAV less for just putting up 63pts….. the guy can shove it…

This still isn't good for Winnipeg. He's handcuffed them and forced them to move him, if it's a sign and trade it will be a better result for them but if it's just him as an RFA wanting $9 million I don't think they get the return they'll want

NYR and Minessota doesn't have anything close to that capspace anyway.

Who cares about how much he wants. I want to be paid $9M too, doesn't mean I'm going to get it...

8x8 would be the top offer IMO.

I think it should be noted that the article does suggest Dubois might be willing to take less depending on the team he’d be traded to, but a lot can be extrapolated from that…

After failing to lead in 2 organisations, I don't think he could get a better contract than Horvat or Hertl. 8-8.5 seems to be the sweet spot.

No clue how high they would go, but the comparables call for a higher AAV than Suzuki.

The whole "not more than the captain" reasonning after Caufield's contract is apples and oranges.

History shows that when a team pay a hefty price for a player who needs a new contract, he has the upper hand in following negociations.

IMO, for any team, under $8M would be a win and over $8.5M would be pricey.

That sounds like a Roope Hintz number who did a max term extension with the team buying 1 RFA year and 7 UFA years.

My guess is that Dubois will ask for Tkachuk money, his destination team will counter with Hintz money and they will settle somewhere between Hintz and Barzal.
