That's hilarious... Jacob Slavin is a better player than Mitch Marner.
Also if Marner is better than than the entire hurricanes then how come the Hurricanes have won 6 more series in the last five years than marner

Toronto tells Carolina to go away politely, because they aren’t a bunch of jerks.

This team takes a big step back.

Not enough value back for Marner never mind adding Topi and a 1st. Forwards got worse , D and Goaltenders are about the same. If they move one of the core 4 they need add a significant piece on the D or G or add 2 roster pieces and picks/prospects

26 year old 99 point Selke finalist. Averages over 100 points per 82. 33rd ALL-TIME in career PPG. First team All-Star RW the last two, beating out Pasternak, Kucherov and Rantanen.

When you can’t throw out any forward names because the comparisons are obvious, throw out a defensive D knowing you can’t compare apples to oranges. Nice try, but Toronto will it’s 100 point Selke finalist.

I get some of that. But not adding prospects. We don’t need them. We’re not rebuilding we want to win a cup

1. Carolina wouldn’t trade for Marner since they cant re-sign him
2. Toronto doesn’t do that deal.

Its a no all around

Okay, let's dissect this piece by piece.
Marner plays on a team system that emphasizes offense
The Hurricanes don't have a forward that has quite the production that Marner has
I mean Aho is good but he isn't on a level of a Marner but our D-Men are way more skilled than our forwards and together are the best D-Core in the world

Nope...
Slavin and Burns > Hague and Whitecloud
Gostisbehere and Chatfield > Hague and Whitecloud
Skjei and Pesce = McNabb and Theodore

Former Norris winner and Elite shutdown defensemen are better than Hague and Whitecloud by a wide margin

I tried rational discourse with this homer earlier - doesn’t work. No perfect way to gauge player’s values - jfresh + some other models try to isolate an individual player’s contribution - but we can keep it simple. Marner is paid way more $ and if they are both FAs today -Marner would be paid way more $. Love Slavin - great player, but offense is more valuable than defense and an offensive player that is also strong defensively is 😎

I... what? Marner isn't a good fit for Carolina and he isn't a long term fit for a goalscoring problem as a pass first guy, so that means roster pieces are off the table. Right? Good.

That being said, what did Mitch Marner do to you or your loved ones?

Because the Metro isn't as good as the Atlantic. You haven't been able to hardly win vs an Atlantic team in the playoffs. But congrats on losing a bit later.

So losing a trade by a huge margin is going to help that?

No, I'm just being realistic... you making us get worse at the position where we are the thinnest by trading for our 2C. I mean Aho, Drury, Staal, and a Depth Center is a very weak group. We would give up some depth on the wings not the center position

I mean the Metro is going to be as good if not better than the Atlantic this year considering the massive step back that Boston and Tampa are poised to take. I mean getting two conference finals in five years is nothing to stick your nose up at... especially coming for you guys who haven't made one since I was born. The first time was the first year of our window and the second time we were decimated with injuries

You really don't understand hockey.

The leafs play a puck possession system. Not an offence first system. Hence why they are top 10 in goals against.

Marner is one of the top playmakers in the world. Put him on Carolina and Svechnikov would be a 50 goal scorer and your team defence would improve a great deal. Because you would also be getting a selke finalist. You are very clearly just one of those fans that hate TO more than you like your own team. No rational conversations can take place with people like you.

TO has lost to a cup finalist for 3 straight seasons. As has Carolina. The difference is you don't have to face an Atlantic team until the 3rd round, where you lose every time.
