You trade Nylander and Robertson for Crouse and Schmaltz. I wouldn't make that trade. Crouse is so overrated and Schmaltz isn't half as good as Nylander.

Canes have ridiculous amounts of cap space this year, they don't need the retention. Assuming Nylanders extension wasn't overpriced, say 8.5 x 8, I think the Canes would do this in a heart beat. If Nylanders extension was coming in at 10, I think there's going to be a lot more hesitancy because of his consistency issues.

We become more balanced tho. We can roll 3 lines as every line is a scoring threat. Also our 4th line is fast and tenacious.

The pure non-extistence of free agents worth while means that they can make cap neutral trades. Even if they bring in Nylander, as of right now, they'd have something like 13 million in space after filling the roster out

yet they both are listed w AM on top line. Crouse isnt top line material - middle 6, but big physical, great PK. Schmaltz wasnt in the nylander trade

I’d sign Kampf, Accairi, Schenn. Bring up Holmberg, Knies, Robertson and McCann. Then I would turn my sites to Domi. He can play centter of wing. Can play PP2. Isn’t that big but is one of the better fighters in the league. While I would rather he played a heavier game I still see plenty of value with him playing 3rd line center and riding shotgun with Nylander/Tavares when the going gets rough. His Dad played here and I think you could convince him that a short term deal would springboard him similar to players like Hyman, Mikheyev, Campbell, and soon to be Bunting, Holl and Kerfoot. Players that have played in Toronto get noticed and get paid. Other than that you need to look at guys like Orlov, Bertuzzi — guys that can play in your top 6 or top 4 D.
