Cat will go somewhere else if that is the ask from Ottawa. Too much to give up for a half solution to our problems.

I doubt cat even asks to come here anyways, we would ask him to play defense

Im a bit confused by this? Do you mean literally or just play defensively? If the latter you realize DeBrincat has quite a solid 2-way game.

He would thrive on a high possession team like Carolina, Calgary, or Boston

I must be watching a different Debrincat because he really doesn’t have a 200 foot game.

I mean this year he wasn't good but Ottawa sucked defensively as a team. He was perfectly fine to quite good defensively in Chicago

The price of the trade aside, I've never fully understood the argument against getting some elite level scorers that many canes fans on here have. Like sure he's not an elite two way player, but if he can at least hold his own defensively, and still do what he does best what's the issue? He still brings the finishing ability that this team desperately needs. This team put up with Tony Deangelo's mess of a "defensive" game for a year for god sakes i'm sure they could help Debrincat excel.
