Too steep of a price for saros. Jiricek is untouchable as the best defensive prospect in the NHL. They would trade him for stuzle not debrincat.

I like Boqvist but you would have to accept the VAN (43rd) pick instead.

Arguably, maybe. Hughes, Edvinsson, and Nemec would like a word.

Wasn’t counting Hughes as he graduated. He’s better than edvinsson for sure and was way better than nemec in the AHL last year. They are all great but jiricek just demolished the points record for an 18 year old defenseman in the AHL. Jiricek still needs to add strength but so far he’s projecting to be a 1RD

Because of the pp. Nemec broke the goals record for teenage scoring the AHL. He has a slow start and I’m not saying he is the sure better prospect but it is very very close between them

Yeah they are no doubt close and both will be great in the NHL. Really just comes down to which style you prefer. Nemec will fit perfectly into the devils system

Hughes has played 5 NHL games; Jiricek has played 4.

Ed was at 0.52 PPG while Jiricek was at 0.69. Ed's team had 13% less GF than Jiricek's. Obviously Jiricek gets the nod here as better offensively, but Ed's game isn't all about offense as he's extremely well rounded and certainly looked good with his time in Detroit. That's not to say Jiricek isn't good all over the ice, it's just that Ed's leading strength isn't offense whereas Jiricek's is.

In 5 years, once Ed has grown into his body and fully adjusted to it, it will be an interesting debate for the 6oa picks in consecutive draft years, especially if you don't consider offense as the #1 factor in who is the best defenseman.

That is a bit much for Saros, even from a NSH fan's perspective. Frankly, if you sent the 2024 1st with no protection and Sillinger that might do it. At this point, it isn't a secret that Trotz will heavily consider deals for Saros that involve a potential 1C for the future, and from what I've seen from Sillinger he might have that potential despite an off year last year.

DeBrincat is 24 y/o and has hit 40+ goals twice. Suggesting that OTT needs to add a pick is ridiculous.
Jiricek looks great but hasn't shown he can play at the NHL level yet.
There've been too many "untouchable players" that have gone on to be "okay" and nothing is guaranteed until it happens.

Go look at any prospect ranking. Jiricek is ranked first. Not a huge gap but still. Jiricek has outplayed the other guys in the WJC and in the AHL

Nemec did way more at 5v5 than Jiricek

I can look at thehockeywriters' one where they list Edvinsson @ 2.
Or is there another one you want me to look at?

In truth, they're all very close in a general "goodness," but they're also different types of defensemen. Points look better, but Edvinsson is the best at defense of the bunch and I don't think it's particularly close.

From there you can argue if his better defense offsets the worser offense; but in all honesty you could throw Jiricek, Nemec, and Edvinsson in any order and if you give a fair analysis I'll agree.

I'm not that big on L. Hughes; I'd personally have him 4th of the whole bunch, but that's because he's the worst defensively by far.

I mean I'd say it's so close that it's basically comparing apple to oranges -- each defenseman is different, you can pick whichever you want and you'll be happy of the outcome regardless.

Yup. Jiricek is the best PP QB, Nemec is the best 5on5 producer, and Edvinsson is likely the best shutdown option (I say likely because this is much more difficult to properly evaluate)

Edvinsson is the best on the defensive end is probably just the better way to phrase. But I mean, all of these guys are going to be studs and on just a generic scale from bad to great; they're all great.

And they're also all still teenagers so odds are that their developments end up completely different in a way that is basically impossible to predict

Yeah I mean that's entirely possible. I know that Edvinsson could hit a very high offensive ceiling; I don't doubt with the right coach, those other D-men could hit high defensive ceilings too if need be.

I do doubt we see Edvinsson hit a very high offensive ceiling since he works with Kronwall and occasionally Lidström. Although Lidström was actually very good offensively, I think he walks down towards Kronwall's path of just being a big 'ol scary shutdown D-Man.
