I'm not trying to convince you. I'm trying to correct you.

They don't have 6-8 tip players to sign. They have 2 middle 6, a 4th liner, and a goalie.

You aren't correcting me. The cost to dump him is still the same. The decision to dump him or buy him out is now on PIT.

If you think that is all PIT needs to contend for a cup in any serious capacity, I have a pretty good feeling you are going to be disappointed.

Are you referring to the ACGM posted there? The one with 18 total players and no starting goalie? Do you think I posted that saying this is all they need?

No. I am referring to your description of what PIT needs and how easy and cheap you think it will be.

I think either Campbell or Grubauer will need a 1st+ attached to move without retention. With retention it would go down to maybe a 2nd or 3rd

The ability to upgrade from Grubauer to Ullmark makes a ton of sense for Seattle and they have the draft pick capital to make it feasible.

Retain $2m and offer up a second round pick … he probably is as attractive as any free agent out there. The free agent goaltender market sucks this year.

My perspective is the price to get Ullmark is not going to be massive if you aren’t making them take a ton of salary. I believe there will be someone who pays more than the price flagged here, but I also value Trent Frederic at 2 to 2.5m

Grubauer was ok this year. He was terrible last year. With 2MM retention, a can see a 2nd (any maybe a little more).

Campbell was terrible this year and bad last year. Even with retention, he might require a 1st. He is at best league average and for 5MM for 4 more years, that is a lot.

I peg Ullmark at worth a 2nd. He had a great year but every year prior was roughly +/- 1 WAR.

With the current goalie market and his salary over the next two years, I easily see him worth a 2nd and a good prospect. That’s the rub with Pittsburgh. I realize there are generalizations with the volatility of goalies, but we are in an era where there aren’t many of them. A 2nd likely gets you a Dan Vladar type or a player like John Gibson who has struggled for a while.

I'm not worried about volatility. Ullmark has a career 3.4 WAR. He had a 4.2 WAR this year. Meaning, his career WAR, not counting this year, is -0.8(ish). He is an average goalie who had a great year. Maybe he turned a corner. Maybe not...

Vladar has never posted a positive WAR. I wouldn't trade a 5th for him.

Gibby.... :'(
