Idk why you're saying "apparently" when that's roughly what was paid for him last year. Now he's had a down year and has a pending contract situation and the 2023 draft is stronger than the 2022 one I'd think the Sens would be lucky to get that much back

id rather keep him till the deadline then. Theres no way he doesnt explode with Norris healthy next year. The Sens arent selling low on him especially for picks, theyre fighting for a playoff spot

yes but pinto missed all of the 2021-2022 season so after the first 20 games, he pretty much slowed down and was overmatched as the 2C. It was too much for him to face that level of competition in his first full season. He wasnt bad , just couldnt keep up with Cat. Cat also played with Greig/Brassard , neither is a top 6 centre. And he spent most of the year with Batherson who said his ankle was still bothering him all season

The cats value is down because

        - allegedly he wont or dosent wish to sign long term in Ottawa, play in Canada, and agent has submitted list of preferred teams
        - his stats are down from last year
        - his QO is 9m

Now of course none of that matters if he isnt moved.. IF however he is, that's all that matters

Can’t see the SENs keeping him until the TDL? What if you are fighting for a playoff place? Nah - if he’s decided he wants out, he’s gonna be moved at draft

They’re not gonna move him for a bad return and get worse for next year. What u got for Hronek isn’t enough for Cat

That's what he was worth when he was coming off a 41 goal season and had a 6mil cap hit with term remaining and RFA contract expiry.
Now he's coming off a 27 goal season and has no contract. He wants an 8 year deal at 8-9 million per...No team is giving up those kinds of assets to lock themselves into cap hell with DeBrincat.

A first for Laughton seems high. A low 2nd would be more reasonable imo.

He may light it up and score 40 next year and they get back what they paid for him. He also may get injured and his value could plummet. That's 100% a risk for the Sens.

the bigger risk is moving him for a trash return and getting worse on the ice

Considering his contract status and down year and the well known fact he wants to play in Detroit, If I'm Steve Yzerman, best I'm offering is two 2nds (42 and 43 overall) and a B prospect (Cross Hanas). If Ottawa declines that offer, which they will, they'll sign his QO and try to deal him at the deadline. They will find some contender to take his contract on at 50% retained, he'll be a pure rental though. Just wait one more year after he signs his 1 year 9mil QO with Ottawa, get traded at the deadline and then hits open market next summer. Sign him without giving up any valuable assets. If he gets traded to Nashville, Dallas, Vegas or Florida and they lock him up, From Detroit's perspective it's not a big blow. We'll use that cap space to sign our home grown draft picks up long term.
