Calgary fans: What does the cost look like to acquire this?

Are these players Calgary would consider moving?

I'm not really sure what the value would look like going back, I listed some possible pieces on the Toronto side of the trade. There are obviously other pieces there that can be added/ exchanged depending on what Calgary would like to see returned in the deal.

We can argue all day about the exact value here or there but more importantly how do Calgary fans feel about moving on from these 3 players? How do Calgary fans feel about Nylander and possibly his chances of being extended by them?

Additional Details:
Lots of talk about some of the bigger names possibly on the move from Winnipeg.

Is a guy like Lowry in Winnipeg's plans?

I feel there would be serious interest in 3 years of this guy especially with retained salary.

Winnipeg fans:

How do you feel about trading Lowry?

What his value?

    Regarding the Calgary trade:

I listed potential trade chips on the Toronto side of the deal. This is not an offer, but an invitation for discussion and ideas from Calgary's perspective while listing potential pieces that I think the trade could be built around

That is the worst Calgary trade I have seen yet. Why would TO do this? Nylander is by far the best player and they are trading him for 3 rentals and have to give up 2 good young RD, another decent forward prospect a 2nd and 3rd? Nylander alone gets you 2 of those pieces plus. Maybe all 3. This is just terrible asset management

If they didn't accept this, the whole team should be fired.

I don't think he sucks. He is big, throws hits, starts 70% of his shifts in the d-zone 5v5 and suppresses chances. Average FO, doesn't give the puck away a lot.

Something the Leafs are missing and would be a value contract at 2m for 3 yrs.

This is not an offer did you not read the post? I was listing possible assets to go to Calgary. I asked Calgary fans what they would expect as a return...

I think WPG considers that offer even with the retention and potentially still looking to compete. They definitely take it if they are rebuild.

Now, I wonder why the Leafs would trade for both Backlund and Lowry, two guys who really should be occupying the same role.

The Leafs looked like they could use another Brodie (Tanev) but the Rielly-Schenn pairing has been great so acquiring Tanev shouldn't be high on the list in a Nylander trade.

I think one of those 3 guys are going to end up being CGYs captain, so I don't think they all will be moved, but I could see Tanev and/or Backlund possibly getting dealt. Flames are looking to add a top 6 F to what they have so they probably wouldn't want to move Toffoli but maybe they would for Nylander.

Overall, I think there's more than enough value (Edit: I too misunderstood what you meant by some of the trade chips, thought you were willing to add more 😂) for CGY to accept that offer but the question is can they afford to resign Nylander who may want 9.5-11M.

He went 41 games this season with one goal and it was a career season for Lowry, if you like bad depth scoring then he's the guy you're looking for.

Agreed, I often say on here that long term retention isn't realistic (and really it isn't) but getting a 1st, recent 2nd and a 3rd for a guy that should've been a 4C his entire career would be a massive win.

David Kampf had 7 goals for us. The reality is Toronto hasn't built their 3rd line to score since Keefe give or take.

They just need to be able to be hard to play against, suppress chances in our end, solid defensively and start their shifts in our d-zone and get the puck up the ice and change.

Unless there's someone we can't live without, that's giving up too much to get 28OA. Maybe ANA's 4th and it gets done.

I don't see Rielly-Schenn as a sustainable top pair on a contending team, as well as they played together. Our d is missing a piece in my opinion.

You definitely bring up fair points, some of which I considered myself when writing this. I don't expect a large trade like this to happen IRL but I do think with some of the pieces involved it could simmer down to something more simple and feasible.

I've added another note to help avoid confusion with the Calgary trade lmao.

This is just based on value we have seen in previous years. It doesn't have to be ANA but a pick within the 33-40 range we have seen moving roughly 10 spots out of the 1st round is worth a 3rd and another late pick. I purely looked at the trades Leafs have made in the past as well as some other teams.

It's under the assumption the team moving in is doing so to pick a player they maybe thought wouldn't fall as far and someone they value.

Yeah he'd be a nice add at 2 million. But I am not sure how much I would pay for that.

Yeah, I agree that Rielly-Schenn is probably not sustainable but I think they need someone younger than Tanev that can play big minutes to allow for that pairing to be an option. If they can get Hanifin for example, that opens up a ton of options.
