Cat to DET Hart and Laughton to OTT Futures to PHI

Created by: TkachukNorris79
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 13, 2023
Published: Jun. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sens Top 6 (in order) would be Stutzle, Tkachuk, Norris, Giroux, Batherson and Laughton. Very good Top 6 but I think it is best to spread them out into pairs, all of which have shown great chemistry together in the past:

Tkachuk-Stutzle-XXXXX
XXXXX-Norris-Batherson
Laughton-XXXXX-Giroux

Pinto, Greig and Berggren can all easily be Top 6 level players soon, so surrounding them each with 2 high level NHL Top 6 players is the ideal way to structure this roster.

Trades
1.
OTT
  1. Berggren, Jonatan
  2. 2023 1st round pick (NYI)
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
17th overall
41st overall
DET
  1. DeBrincat, Alex [RFA Rights]
  2. Thomson, Lassi
Additional Details:
DeBrincat comes with an 8x8.5 deal signed to maximize his value, ala Tkachuk last year.

Everyone knows he'll extend long term in Detroit so they A) don't get to use the $9M QO as a reason to offer less and B) they are division rivals in very similar positions so they need to overpay relative to other teams.
2.
OTT
  1. Hart, Carter
  2. Laughton, Scott
Additional Details:
Trade ends up being:

Hart for 17th overall+Brannstrom+2024 2nd

Laughton for Joseph+Boucher+41st overall
PHI
  1. Boucher, Tyler
  2. Brännström, Erik [RFA Rights]
  3. Joseph, Mathieu
  4. 2023 1st round pick (NYI)
  5. 2023 2nd round pick (DET)
  6. 2024 2nd round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Branny's value is Late 1st/Early 2nd (Lundkvist). He was a Top 4 D man this year IMO but is now stuck at #5 behind Sanderson, Chabot, Chychrun and Zub. He needs to be set free and at 23 years old is a great fit for Philly in the short and long term. For Ottawa, it sucks trading him but Kleven looked ready for a 3rd pairing role and Brannstrom has re-gained some trade value after his resurgence this past season. SET BRANNY FREEE!! Need to see him succeed.

Boucher is gonna be a great 3rd liner in a couple years with the right development plus he has the Philly ties from his dad. Also seems like a Torts kinda player.

Joseph is a solid replacement roster player for Laughton.

Johnny Burgers OR 17OA, not both... replace Berggren with Hanas and you have a deal

I feel the Flyers might get a better deal elsewhere, but this is not a bad package.

That trade doesnt help Ottawa and if they wanted to flip it barely gets Hart on its own. Bad use of asset management for Ottawa to only get Hanas and 17th when thats barely enough for another low end top 6F

It would hurt but I think that's what debrincat is gonna cost, you can adjust the 2nd to a 3rd and leave out Thompson all together.

Not thrilled to have an undersized 22 yr old with only 3/4 a season in NHL as the main prospect return.
However, I don't think with the 17 OA wings have better options. I would love to get Kasper, but you're not getting him and 17 OA.

No way they roll out Grieg and Berrgen in top 6; more than likely Giroux and Laughton in top 6.

I also don't see Brassard coming back from his injury at his age, more than likely Smejkar in on 4th line.

IF Sens make the trade for Hart, I would think they move Forsberg as well. Soogard could still end up better than Hart and he needs NHL games, like in the 30 - 35 game range.

I'd honestly like to see how
Tkachuk-Stutzle-Gauthier
Greig-Norris-Batherson
Laughton-Pinto-Giroux
Smejkal-Kastelic-Hanas
works?

This is assuming berggren is replaced with Hanas

Hanas, 17OA and 41OA is a very reasonable return...

It doesn't, but I think you're going to be disappointed with the real return for an RFA with a 9m QO that doesn't intend to extend in Ottawa... obviously, if you guys can get a better return, you'd be crazy not to take it, but that doesn't mean Detroit is overpaying... honestly, I don't see them being trade partners on Cat for a myriad of reasons

For sure, for what Ottawa's goals are, I completely get it, you guys just might need to take a little less as far as asset value, to get a "win now" player in the package... I still think Kubalik in place of Hanas could work both ways, but I know Ottawa fans have balked at that in the past...

i just dont see kubalik here longter. Id take him on line 3 for a year but when moving Debrincat, its tough to be happy about getting kubalik

You won't get Kasper in any deal that has DeBrincat as the best current player lol. He is quite literally untouchable.

I don't think Kasper is on the table unfortunately.

And I know it looks like Greig is in the Top 6, but the idea here is that you have 3 lines with multiple Top 6 guys on it plus a young future Top 6 guy (Pinto/Berggren/Greig).

Realistically the Laughton-Pinto-Giroux line would get a bunch of minutes against the other team's top line. But each line could get 12-14 minutes each 5v5 and all lines have at least two 20 goal scorers.

As for goalies, I think Sogaard is ready for a back up role he still hasn't dominated at the AHL level. Let him take control and have Hart/Forsy in OTT. I'd wager most teams used at least 3 goalies this year so never bad to have him marinating in Bellevegas and bring him up if we need him. Make a decision on Forsberg next year when he only has 1 year left. He won't be a cap dump, he'll either be worth a mid round pick as a backup or he'll be on LTIR.

I think this the thing alot of wings fans don't seem to understand. Teams like Winnipeg or Ottawa or LA that we see a lot of trades to want win now pieces. Teams don't just dismantle playoff teams for futures.

Wings aren’t paying more than what Ottawa paid. Maybe a team will overpay, but it won’t be Detroit. Try Dubas or Holland.
