Trade down Cap weaponization

Created by: Jaskwatch
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 13, 2023
Published: Jun. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming the top of the draft goes,
1. CHI - Bedard
2. ANA - Fantilli
3. CBJ - Smith/Carlsson
4. SJS - Smith/Carlsson

and that MTL doesn't want to take the Michkov route, preferring Reinbacher or Leonard - could PHI be persuaded to trade up to all but guarantee their rebuild gets its superstar? doing so would allow MTL to still pick Leonard or Reinbacher at 7 as well as up the ante on a potential PLD trade.

So... 2 late round 1sts and Jordan for PLD. Not horrible. Dvorak and Farrell don't help this much. The 2 1sts could end up being a steal.

Too much for PLD here! Way too much. Take out LAK 1st Farrell and swap fla pick for a 2024 top ten protected.

Why would LAK help you take Dubois out from under them?
They're suppose to be the ones heavily interested in a Sign and Trade with him

I'd rather trade down to ARZ and get Hayton or Mcbain for handing them Michkov.
They need it more and either Center would go a long ways in MTL's system
A Package around that helps both teams involved

Both are in a position to make an impact in MTL
They wont cost what PLD does either

I find it pretty hilarious, That a team with only $725,000 in cap space. Thinks they can weaponize their cap space.

    No established value
    Its like Ylonen or Richard
Good players but try to trade them for value.
There's 4-5 guys like this on every team and until they step up no one's interested in betting on a long shot.
Ylonen showed promise as did Richard but both need to follow it up

The pick belongs to PHI, LAK may not like it but nothing they can do about it. I fear a trade down to ARI would not really work. By virtue of being willing to trade the pick they know MTL probably isn't too keen to take Michkov so they can just wait and select him one pick later

If MTL can trade Hoffman for nothing, why does WSH have to pay a 1st to trade Mantha?

Gee do you honestly think that the Caps are giving you a 2025 1st round pick? For a player who's likely to be boughout in Anthony Mantha, I don't think so. In none of these trades are you weaponizing your cap space. The whole idea of weaponizing your cap space. Is getting high end assets from capped strapped team and giving them garbage in return.

You probably dont get another 1st to move down 2 places. A mid 2nd probably though.

Myers idea isn't horrible for Van but I think they can move him almost entirely for a 3rd given his experience and minimal salary.

    Thats not good trades tbh

Hoffman you could get something, like a later draft pick or bit better with retation
Philly trade need something more, i made something like this : 5th + harris+ norlinder for 7th and 22th+Seeler
That's wayyyyyyy to much for PLD, it would be just dumb to trade that, i see something like either Fla pick or top 10 protected 2024 pick + adds
Wsh trade will never happened, why tf will the caps do that
Vancouver deal.. the least bad in my opinion but we could get more, and if we do that Eddy wont go to van tho doesn't make sens

The main concern is how goooood the draft is, you will need to overpay in that situation, but getting annother 1rst in the draft means that you will need to sent also annother thing, which i can see being a ld that mtl will not need like Harris

    Actually a good PLD trade.

Jets would be lucky to get half of that in value in a trade. Jets are getting fleeced on the PLD trade. He wants Montreal and no one else. He only named other teams to drive up his price but none of those teams are trading for him for 9M. He would do a sign and trade to Montreal for less.

Obviously the PLD trade in this scenario complicates things, but I think 5 + 31 for 7 + 22 could make sense for both sides

Depending on how the board falls, I wouldn't be opposed to this trade for PHI. Pick value is about fair, depends how PHI values the top-5 consensus vs. Leonard, Moore, etc.
