Interesting proposal

MTL
  1. Bailey, Josh
  2. 2024 1st round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Top 10 protect

They get the cap relief and get a high second rounder that holds a lot of value considering this year's draft. Instead of losing a pick in order to dump Bailey, they simply move back. MTL takes a gamble on NYI being bad next year.

It’s an interesting proposal for Montreal, and should be a non-starter for the Islanders. Trading a first to dump bailey would be beyond moronic imo. Just buy him out at that point.

Yeah but its the 37th OA pick (basically a late first in a great year). Next year's first could end up being in the late 20s (if you have a great season), which imo (based on the reports we have of the 2024 class) would probably give us a worst prospect than some of the guys available at 37th this year.

Considering the fact you barely have any prospects left, It could be smart to not lose a pick and simply move back a little (to dump Bailey).

Ur literally betting on the isles to be bad. They would be better off buying him out unless they can dump him for less than a second. Maybe Bailey and a third for Walker on Philly, or something like that would make sense. That’s about it.

Exactly. Its a risk for us. And I only made this trade based on all the Bailey and a second for nothing threads that I saw recently (and that were made by actual NYI fans). But I respect your opinion on the matter.

Yeah but ur proposal is completely different and doesn’t really make sense for NY.

How? If your 2nd rounder ends up being around 45-50 OA what do you think it would cost to move up to 20-25 (where your first is most likely to end up next year)?

Exactly, another 2nd rounder which happens to be an early one in a really good draft.

So basically, instead of giving the 45-50th OA pick, you're giving up the value between this pick and the 20-25th OA (basically the 37th OA).

Right but the isles r better off just trading a second or less. OR buying him out.
