So is this a good trade for both sides? Do the Jets possibly get more for CH? I read somewhere that Buffalo is keen to get him but so are a few others. Is this a Draft Day Trade?

You’re joking, it’s an over pay and they should never make that deal. Also, why in the hell would anyone pay $5 million for a third line center? I know the Islanders are, but I think they are also trying to trade one of those centers.

Sabres aren’t paying that much for a rental. And we don’t want to sign him for 8 years

If I’m Chevy (I am really), I do not want UPL. From what I have seen he’s sloppy in the crease and loses form especially after a goal or two. The Sabres do have many appealing players, nobody other than the big 3 on D, but plenty of nice young forwards and some nice prospects. I’m going to want at least one of them to go with the picks.

UPL has no value. There are better goalies avail for free. A first (NEXT YEAR!) and 2nd is easily beaten. Helly is a finalist for the Vezina and one of the top goalies in the league.

Buffalo is not in the position to give him that kind of contract, therefore without one it’s a terrible overpay. Buffalo isn’t making that trade anyway. They are not bringing in a veteran goaltender that would block Devon Levi from taking the job when he is ready to do it. I expect he will be ready sooner than most people think.

I don't care about any of that that's Buffalos business what they want to do. That trade offer is not an overpay whatsoever lol

Maybe they don’t need a goalie for 8 years but they do need a veteran goalie for the next 2 or 3. Freddy Anderson come on down. The good thing about Freddy is that he’s injured so often Levi will get most of the games. He’s also prone to long stretches of bad play which should allow Levi to gain confidence and feel like the true number 1.

you don’t care about logic, duly noted. Your opinion is nonsense since it’s a trade that would not be made in the first place. Of course, this website is full of nonsense. You should get used to that.

Signing Freddie Andersen makes a lot more sense than overpaying for Connor Hellebuyck. For instance, he costs no assets. While it is a silly thought, his sister just signed with the women’s team in Buffalo as well. It would be kind of cool to have both of them here together.

Freddy is an enigma, when he starts playing great looking like one of the best goalies in the league and you start believing — he starts to lose. Don’t ask me why, but it’s been that way throughout his career. He still seems like a good option for Buffalo. Be prepared to pay with the UFA market full of GMs looking to make a splash and save their jobs. I’d expect Freddy gets a 4 year deal around 4 or 5 per. So many goalies lately with one year resumes getting 5 million or close to it. The one thing Freddy has going for him is that he has been an NHL caliber goalie for a long time.

I'd rather get one of the Sabres many good forward prospects and they can afford to part with one, Jets can also take Comrie back.

I would say, buffalo isn’t going to give anyone more than a two or maybe 3 year deal. If Freddie isn’t on board with that they will find somebody else that is. Or they will ride with UPL and Levi and see what happens. It wouldn’t surprise me if they actually don’t bring in any other goaltenders, and end up waiving Comrie. Unless Levi is not ready to be on the team when the year begins that’s probably what would happen.

I had high hopes for UPL back to his days with the Wolves but he seemed lost at times last year and got worse as the season went on. the one expectation I would have for him is to get better as he becomes accustomed to the league. Not sure Buffalo is the team to play air tight defence while he gains confidence. Levi, on the other hand seems to ooze confidence. Letting in a bad goal or having a bad game doesn’t seem to phase him. I’d certainly be looking for a very, very good veteran to pair with him. Buffalo is a young and fragile team that will need exellent goaltending as they mature into a better defensive team. If I’m Kevin Adams I’m not risking my young players confidence on two young goalies. There’s probably another GM willing to take UPL in exchange for an older more established goalie and some picks. I really think you need to choose between the two. UPL is 24 and not waiver exempt anymore. By comparison Samsonov is 26 and seems to have been around forever. Ottinger, Hart, Skinner, Kotchetkov, are all 24 or younger. UPL isn’t a kid anymore, he needs to show that he is a capable NHL goalie.

laugh An overpay UPL was garbage this past season. A 2024 1st when teams will be offering up their 2023 1st for Hellebuyck. A trash Goalie and a 1st and 2nd is hardly overpay. And freaking fat chance of Hellebuyck taking 8 x $8,000,000 in Buffalo when he wants 8 x $10,000,000 Hellebuyck would laugh at that offer.

I think there is a reasonable correlation to say that he wore down as the season went on. For a good while UPL was the best Goaltender Buffalo had available, because Anderson kept getting hurt, and Comrie was absolutely brutal and unreliable. I think he played a few too many games in a row at times, and everyone knows if you watched the Sabres last season how bad the defense was in front of their goaltenders. I don’t think they will trade UPL right away unless the deal is simply too good to say no, I think this could be the make or break season for him though. Since Comrie is already signed for next season, I don’t know if Buffalo is looking for yet another goalie, if only because the owner doesn’t want to spend money if he doesn’t have to. Some people think Levi might even start the year in Rochester, which I don’t think will happen unless he comes to camp completely unprepared, or gets hurt. Buffalo probably will not risk losing UPL on waivers, but Comrie is less likely to be taken if they try it. If for some reason someone actually did grab him most Sabres fans would not miss him.
