Even if they were to trade Pesce this return is absolutely horrendous and would never be considered.

Three 20-goal seasons in four years since hitting the NHL full time including a career high 28 goals last season.

Please define "isn't good."

looks at his skating, defensive ability, and lack of hockey IQ and then all of that scoring is erased and he isnt good. he is a lesser skating version of Dzingel and Dzingel flopped here. Olofsson would have the same fate, 4 line LW and eventual trade for AHL veterans to another team to clear cap space at the deadline.

Dzingel is a good comparable statistically when it comes to their first few seasons, but the difference for me revolves around Olofsson's lethal shot. Yeah, he has issues in his all around game, but he can torch the best goalies when he has time and space. That's how he came to averaging just about 26 goals/82 games.

our system requires you to skate, play defense, and forecheck. All things Olofsson doesnt do. Just scoring goals doesnt make him a fit. Dzingel had 3 straight seasons over 20 once too.

So maybe "isn't [a] good [fit]" might have been a better approach to a deserved panning of the trade proposal.

And Dzingel had two 20-goal seasons which were preceded by a 14-goal campaign.

he isnt good and he isnt a fit. He is an overpriced contract even with 28 goals. His 2 way game is so poor than he doesnt bring value.

Goals aren't everything. If you score 28 goals but let in 50 while you are on the ice, it's not a good thing.

All depends on what a team might need. That will dictate his worth.

But you can't say a player who has averaged 26 goals/82 games isn't good. If he isn't he must be extremely lucky.

he had a -3.4 million dollar value this year compared to his contract. So having a very one dimensional game isnt a good player. that player is just a good shooter and poor everything else. Im not sure you classify that more than not good.

Since 2019-20, EV goal differential (min 250 games):

Olofsson (81 goals) -46
Dahlin (37) -44
Hertl (87) -44
D.Larkin (91) -41
N. Suzuki (75) -57

Those are the pure stats via NHL.com

Where did that number come from? Again, I'm fully aware of what his shortcomings are, but not good denotes a borderline NHL'er who would be lucky to score 28 points in his NHL career.

Not sure how many Sabres games you've watched but I've watched nearly every one of them for years. You get Olofsson on the dot with a clean look and no goalie is stopping him. And I highly doubt Dom has watched more than a handful of Sabres games over the past four seasons. However, he does come up with pretty charts.

I'm done. You can have the last word if you so desire.

Right, but this is where watching the game helps. If you watch Sabres games Olofsson is generally out of position on D and does not forecheck. If you look at his WOW numbers he clearly drags down the other 4 players on the ice. Why do you think the Sabres healthy scratched him so much at the end of last year when they were making a push to get into the playoffs?

I'm not disputing any of what you just said. Just not a fan of blanket statements like the previous one that was laid out (and I love playing devil's advocate too).

Olofsson's main problem Is not being able to find and/or work for open space. Teams ended up taking him out of the equation and did so rather easily, I might add. That's not good and there-in lies the problem. He's a soft, perimeter player. Having said that his shot is lethal and has been proven to be a weapon throughout his pro career going back to Frolunda and including his 30-goal (in 66 games) season in Rochester. His body of work in its entirety is why he was drafted in the 7th round while that shot is really the only reason he was even drafted at all.
