Bare Bones

Created by: Renegade_H
Team: 2023-24 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2023
Published: Jun. 15, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Shedding Flyers down to Bare Bones to obtain the following:
Cap Space for max draft pick accumulation of bad, short term contracts (free by 2025-2026)
Resigning our Youth

Laughton and Hart stay. Couts and Risto would be available to another team, but largely think having 10M in cap space after these moves is helpful at trade deadline for more 2024 picks.

San Jose says YES PLEASE, but I can't imagine Vlasic does.
Flyers fans should be thankful for Pickles saying no

Sharks are not paying to move Vlasic. Plain and simple. This has been stated ad nauseam on this site. Also, Vlasic declines to waive.

Its an expensive way to get up to 4, but if Flyers truly are rebuilding until 2025-2026, then they can take on Vlasic and buyout later. Securing Smith or Carlsson would be ideal.

EDIT: New guy here so duly noted about ad nauseam Vlasic rumors.

Which is exactly what the Sharks are doing, rebuilding. Hence why this trade is totally pointless and moot.

That still isn't nearly enough to take the Vlasic deal. 3 slots (even at that part of the draft) for a guy who is barely an NHLer at best costing 21 mil on the cap is simply not enough to be worth it

Full retention if you even want that first to come into the conversation for Hayes.

what exactly makes Atkinson that much more valuable than Mantha? he missed an entire year of hockey? Are we assuming Atkinson is a 50p player still? ill pass and just eat a 1.3m mantha buyout and sign a better player in FA

This is very much not accurate from an SJ standpoint.

1) Vlasic played much better last year, though still below the value of the contract.
2) His contract only has 3 years left and the Sharks likely won't be competing in that time
3) 7m is a big cap hit, but its not actually preventing the Sharks from doing anything they want to do. We're not signing any big name free agents and we don't have any major RFAs to resign in the short term
4) Sharks are more than capable of just buying it out themselves if it came to that.

Sharks just don't need to move him at all.

This year he played much better and was absolutely an nhl caliber player. A $7 mil player? No, but he wasn’t all that bad

Just stop with the Sharks trading the 4th pick. It's not going to happen for that package.

Would rather just keep Mantha and the 1st over getting Atkinson (or just buy Mantha out)

That Caps trade is hilarious……ly bad. The Caps aren’t going to trade a 1st for Cam Atkinson. Atkinson is 34 and hasn’t played in the NHL since 2022 and has term remaining on his contract so WSH isn’t even Salary Dumping Mantha, they’re taking on salary.. This is a steaming pile of absolute crap. PHI would have to ADD a 1st to Atkinson for Mantha, not the other way around.
