I think there are different levels of core players. The team can't really hand.out 8 year deals to 12 different players.

They can (and probably will) if they save money elsewhere. Thats what im getting at. If they have to decide between a long term extension for levi or someone like pesce, thats not really much of a choice.

Theyre not going to pay Pesce more than six mil, and I think Carolina can get him at that number.

I think they can afford to pay him more. They have a lot of young forward talent in the pipeline, so they have cheap options to replace players as they get older and are looking for more money. This really isn't the case with the D, particularly for stay at home guys.

You cant assume any and all of them will work out. Thats how teams get stuck. They wont go after Pesce, will hear that next week.
