Sharks aren't in a position to be giving up high picks especially if NJD makes the ECF that turns into a 1st.

If there was a condition that if the pick converts to a 1st we give up our 25 2nd pick then I kinda want take a stab at this. Robertson could be Barabanov 2.0 little smaller but has upside.

Only concern is his injury history.

CAR definitely declines, they're still going to be contenders next season and they cant lose Martinook, he was a beast in the playoffs and he makes barely any money

I mean we are most likely exchanging a chance at a first for a true first for a cap dump and an injury prone prospect, can't imagine why we wouldn't do this?

I don't think such a deal would make them not contenders by any means. They'd be trading from a position of strength to acquire a very dynamic forward -- something that seems to be a need for CAR. I'm also not entirely sure what to make of Martinook's value; he had a series against NJ where he converted, and contributed at an absurd rate relative to any other stretch of his career. I don't think Martinook = Timmins, but I also think Nylander holds the greatest value in this deal, and I don't think Nylander = Pesce as a 1-for-1 deal. I think there's a framework here centred around Pesce for Nylander that could work for both sides, although I think there's other pieces that would need to be added, whether Martinook, or something else.

You're essentially guaranteeing that they get a 2024 first instead of hoping NJ gets to the conference Finals. I mean if the same thing happens next year as it did this year then that pick is the 58th overall, instead of a guaranteed 32 or less. And Robo is a low risk pick up for a cap dump goalie.

I like this a lot. Maybe add a condition that if the NJ pick is upgraded SJ gets the higher between the Leafs and NJ 1sts

Sharks arent paying a conditional 1st for a cap dump, for the billionth time, no matter how you dress up the Murray cap dump, you are not getting value in return. Leafs fans are simply the most imbecilic people on the planet clearly.

I think SJ wins this deal -- as the team acquiring the cap dump almost always does. I think the Leafs could try with one last opportunity to see if Robertson can make it through a year at the NHL-level without injury, and see what level of production they get out of him. However, I also think it might make sense to try to recoup some value for a player that, in theory, likely still has value in the eyes of other organizations around the league. I also think SJ would make sense as a landing spot for him given their direction, and the whole California-born story.

Relax -- I didn't realize it was a conditional first mate. Kick it down to a second-or-third rounder in 2025. Also a bit silly to say that regardless of how you "dress up" a cap dump that you automatically can't seek any return. Robertson is a prospect that isn't of zero value, but is injury-prone. Perhaps a change of scenery could do him good. Besides, it's a second or third-round pick -- this by no means yields a guaranteed high-value prospect for either team; it's a complete unknown for a lesser unknown.
