Draft day trade

Created by: Shaquille_Oatmeal
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 17, 2023
Published: Jun. 17, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Picks 42 and 43 would only get us to pick 27 according to some charts. But if we take Scandella's contract? I think it probably gets it done then.

Why do I want to trade up? It's a deep Draft and there will be some really good prospects available in the 25-35 range. One of Quentin Musty, Dmitri Simashev, Gavin Brindley, Riley Heidt, Nate Danielson, Andrew Cristall is pretty certainly available there...But probably not in the 41-43 range.

Blues fans would probably rather trade pick 29, but then there would have to be more coming back to Detroit.

nah, cap space isn't too much of an issue. I would rather trade UP to 21-22 and draft someone like But, Simashev or Honzek.

I would probably do this if you change the 25 pick to the 29 pick, assuming we get a good forward and a good defenseman already

For now, blues dont have urge to cap space. Doug said what he will dont be active in FA day. Dont have big UFA and RFA to resign. Scandella contract have only one year left.

Both STL and DET decline.
Just creates more of a headache + the people available at 25 ain't gonna be much better than two available at 41/42.
Unless someone drops.

It all depends on who's available, but I have to disagree here. We're past that point of the Rebuild where we need as many picks as possible. You can carry max 50 contracts - So there is not room for everyone. Red Wings Prospect pool is deep, but there is still one big question mark - High end forwards? That is easiest to get in the 1st round (Especially in a very good Draft).

Some Blues fans likes this idea and some would do it for the 29th pick. Blues have 3 firsts this year, but not a single 2nd round pick, maybe they would like to get some more quantity. But who knows.

What would you rather take: Brayden Yager or Maxim Strbak and Koehn Ziemmer? Talent level between 25 and 41-43 could be big. That's why I think Yzerman should trade up.

I take Oscar Fiskar Møgaard between all of 'em.

But, in a more serious sense, Scandella just clogs up the LHD even more.
Johansson should see ice time in the NHL here this season; he's been long overdue. Scandella is just another obstacle in that.

But we have to have a extra D-man who can play if there are injuries.. Scandella can be that.

Don't think Scandella would be willing to go to Detroit if his role is 7-man. Fair chance he has Detroit on the NTC.
